Maintenance interval for spark plugs is 60K miles, so maybe just replace them. - - - Updated - - - Check/clean your intake air temp sensor. There's a thread about failing smog due to a dirty sensor. Just a few screws to get to the sensor. My original one at 60K was pretty clean though...

In the 996T, if you need a little more room in the back for a car seat, etc, you can easily remove the rear seat bottom (velcro) and the backrest (a few screws/bolts).
