Northwest NSX Club 5th Anniversary Party. The new "real" millennium rolled in with a club anniversary party. The Northwest chapter of the NSX Club celebrated it's fifth anniversary with a party as a club member's house.

After a frosty start, a warm sunny day developed and greeted the group of track enthusiasts for the first Chin Motorsports event to be held at the 2.02 mile 9-turn SCCA track at Roebling Road outside Savannah, GA. February 1 Southwest Phoenix area monthly membership dinner.
February 10 Florida

10 NSXs participated in the all-day Festival of Exotic Cars in Florida. The Festival is an exotic car show to benefit Arnold Palmer Hospital set in the resort town of Mt. Dora, northwest of Orlando. The weather was gorgeous for the first social event of 2001 for the Florida NSX club. The show featured the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Maserati clubs, live music, thousands of fans, and many beautiful cars!

March 1 Southwest Phoenix area monthly membership dinner.
March 5

pd2001rtnsx.jpg (94430 bytes)PD Cunningham behind the wheel of the #42 NSX once again! This time the car is competing is the 2001 Speedvision GT series. Cunningham took the pole and finished second in Ft. Worth, TX for the first race of the series. The new incarnation of the #42 includes a Vortech supercharged 3.2 liter engine along with new suspension, brake, and bodywork packages. March 5 Northwest

Some Northwest NSXers caravanned down to Monterey, CA for a track event at Laguna Seca.

March 16

PD Cunningham made a spectacular outside pass in his #42 NSX at the end of the Speedvision GT race at Sebring to take the win. In the process, Cunningham broke the record for most career World Challenge wins. With this win the  RealTime NSX leads the Speedvision GT series.

 

March 16-18 Florida

16 NSXs participated in the third annual Miami area NSXCApades event. There was a flurry of events starting with an autocross tire test conducted by Bridgestone Firestone at Pro Player Stadium on Friday afternoon, a track event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday and scenic drives on Sunday plus lots of great meals throughout.

 

March 17 Florida Homestead-Miami Speedway. 2.25 mile 12-turn track utilizes the front and back straight of the high-speed oval combined with a challenging infield road course. The facilities are the best in Florida. www.ChinMotorsports.com
March 22 Northeast The Sports Car Drivers Association at Lime Rock. Format is six (6) 15 minute runs (3 in the AM, 3 in the PM). They will create a run group of just NSX's if we can get 20-23 cars there. Qualified in car instructors will be available for novice drivers or for intermediate level drivers unsure of the track layout. 
March 23-25 Southwest NASA Track Event Firebird International Raceway East Track. 
March 24 Northeast Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club Time Trials at Lime Rock Park. Two practice runs in the morning and a timed run ( warm up lap, two timed laps, one cool down lap) in the afternoon followed by a BBQ.

April 7 Southcentral

Texas NSXers Brent Cobb & Marc Weinberg ran the Big Bend "Two Step" open road race in Ft. Stockton, Texas in the 110 MPH average class. Two 59-mile segments over a closed public road trying to average 110 MPH. Fun? You bet! Read the whole story and see more pictures on Marc's website.

Palomar Run Sports Car Drive - A couple NSXs were among the many sports cars that participated in the Palomar Run, a drive consisting of 195 miles of switchbacks, hairpins and abandoned straight-aways.

April 21-22, 2001 Southcentral The Texas gang paid a visit to Texas World Speedway for a little high-speed fun. TWS will be the track for NSXPO 2002. Click here for more photos and a brief write-up!
April 27-29 Southwest

Another three days of sun, fun and camaraderie... that was the Second Silver State NSX Classic held April 27-29, 2001 in and around Las Vegas. This year included an optional track event on Friday at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park in Pahrump, NV, a highly technical, 2.2 mile, 11-turn road course. Saturday was the Valley of Fire drive through beautiful mountain terrain, lunch and race car simulators at the NASCAR Cafe in Las Vegas, and a Gala Dinner Banquet topped off with a product giveaway.

May 3 Southwest Phoenix area monthly membership dinner.
May 5-6 Florida A number of NSXs turned out for a great track event at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. Beautiful weather greeted well over 150 participants including 30 novices. The event was run by Chin Motorsports.
May 12-13 Southwest NASA Track Event Phoenix International Raceway.
May 12 Southeast beautiful-day-and-cars.jpg (389043 bytes)A group NSX Prime forum members and some other NSX owners in the Washington, DC area  met at Dulles Town Center. The meeting was followed by a drive through the historic Northern Virginia countryside. More photos and a write-up by Roy Ebert posted here.

A large group of Southern California NSX owners met here on the NSX Prime message forums and decided to organize an event so they could meet in person, check out each others' cars and go for a fun drive though the canyons. Read the write-ups and see the pictures here!

May 26 Northeast

A bunch of NSXers braved some very soggy weather to watch P.D. Cunninham win the Speedvision World Challenge race at Lime Rock Park driving the Realtime Racing #42 Acura NSX. The group got full day pass plus paddock pass, lunch with the drivers, time to talk to Cunningham and crew, as well as an NSX parking corral and parade laps at lunch. June 5 Southeast Local NSXers Tom Wyche, Dave Perrotta, and Jason met visiting Floridian Wei-Shen Chin in Cary, NC for dinner and car comparisons.

18 NSXs plus a few other sports cars turned out for the 4th annual NSX River Run and Cookout event in New Jersey hosted by Don Gallo and his wife Dawna. As usual, participants enjoyed gorgeous weather, delicious food, door prizes and twisty roads. Photos posted by Bob Larson and Rob.

 

June 9 Northeast Fourth Annual NSX River Run & Cookout. A few dozen NSXs, good food, fun roads and great people make this event a "must". RSVP by May 25. Full details here.

Several Houston area NSXers got together for a spring and shock installation party. Friends always make installs more fun!

 

July 1 Northeast Pohanka1.jpg (442148 bytes)20 NSX owners showed up with their cars at Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA on the first of July to talk NSXs, check out each others cars and discuss the possibility of forming a chapter for the NSX club in the Washington, DC area.

July 14 Northeast 21 NSX's attended the third annual Sunnyside Acura open house, followed by driving, a visit to New Hampshire International Speedway as spectators for an SCCA race, and finally a group dinner at C.R. Sparks restaurant in Bedford, NH.

Lots of NSXs and owners turned out for the grand opening party at the new Dali Racing / Basch Acura Service joint venture NSX service shop near San Diego.

Santa Monica Sports Car Meet - Several NSXers got together and attended a big sports car meet and cruise in Santa Monica, CA. Afterwards, the NSXers went to eat and see a movie as a group.

Atlanta Motor Speedway - A bunch of NSXers participated in an Atlanta Motor Speedway track event by Chin Motorsports, including several who drove up from Florida. Pictured here is Tom Croly coming off the banked turn 2 of the NASCAR oval section of the track.

August 11 Upper East A bunch of NSXers turned out for the First Annual NSX Northeast Poker Ralley organized by Larry Bastanza. More photos are posted on the NSX Upper East website.

Over 20 PacNW NSX owners gathered at Park Place Motors in Bellevue, WA for ScienceofSpeed's tech day, concourso, and prize give-away. The event included demonstrations of some of ScienceofSpeed's new products, viewing of Japanese Best Motoring and Hot Version NSX videos, and prize give aways from Park Place Motors, Car Nutz, and ScienceofSpeed.

Some NSXers got together for a track event at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit in Tulsa, OK.

 

August 26 Northwest Club BBQ and drive
August 26-27 Japan The TAITEC Dream28 team drove their Zeromax NSX to a 2nd place finish in the Pokka 1000km endurance race at Suzuka circuit in Japan. The Zeromax NSX ran in the C-GT class, while the JGTC NSXs ran in GT500 with good results. Read the race details here.

A couple dozen NSXs drew a crowd at the 9th annual Acura Palos Verdes Concours D'Elegance on the cliffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With the surf crashing in the background, spectators enjoyed 200 fine automobiles exhibited and competing in 26 classes including horseless carriage, vintage, classic and sport cars. Acura provided the NSX group with invitations, an NSX show area at the concours, wristbands that allowed the group into the "VIP area" and even provided a gourmet meal and bartender!

September 22 Northwest Half a dozen northern California NSXs went on a drive up Mt. Hamilton to the Lick Observatory, then on to the Castle Air Museum to check out all the cool airplanes.

September 29 Southwest In what has become an annual celebration of some of the finest driving roads Southern California has to offer, 30 NSXers got together for hundreds of miles of canyon-carving fun known as Canyonball V.
September 30 Holland Several NSXs and numerous other Hondas got together for the second NSX event in Holland, the World of Honda Tour. The day started at Hyperformance in Zoetermeer (in the west of Holland) followed by a drive to tour to the beautiful fall scenery, and ended with a go-kart competition.

Vice Howard (left) got third place in the Honda class with his Zanardi NSX, Manual Cantoria (right) got second place in the Honda class with his modified '91 NSX (in background), and Wei-Shen Chin (center) won both first place in the Honda class and Best Of Show for the event with his modified '94 NSX. October 17-21 USA The NSX Club of America held it's 5th annual national meet in Elkhart Lake, WI - home of Road America racetrack. NSXPO 2001 included a reception at RealTime Racing, tours of the EAA AirVenture Museum, technical seminars, many photos, group meals with entertainment, and of course a two-day track event at Road America. Honda Japan publicly announced the lightly redesigned 2002 NSX on their website. With a redesigned nose and tail, fixed-position headlights and new 17" wheels all around this is the first real redesign of the car since its introduction over a decade ago, though it is entirely cosmetic. It is anticipated that an entirely new second generation NSX will follow within a couple years. Official introduction of the US 2002 NSX, which looks the same as the Japanese model as confirmed by recent spy photos, is expected within a matter of weeks.
