Remember this??
It was 1987!

At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video Lt. Col.
Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan
Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God, and country getting the third degree,
but
what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by some senator; "Did you not recently spend close
to
$60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying toget a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't
that
just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family, and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't
pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't.

A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued.
Why
are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie
answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team
be
formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was
shown of
the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore.

Also: Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986.
The
Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him.

As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had
to
agree to release so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands.

The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of
State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed, and eventually thanked the US, by flying
an
airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by
many
of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first
identified.

It was censored in the US from all later reports.

If you agree that the American public must be made aware of this fact,
pass
this on.

Edit: (erases evidence hehe)

Grr...I was duped. Thanks for the heads up on that fabrication Kinan.

I don't usually buy in to these types of stories but when it comes to Clinton and Gore I defianately lower my standard.

For example, I had a hard time believing that the President of the US inserted a cigar in the vagina of a 23 year old intern while in the Oval Office...and on the phone with a senator.

Guess I may have been a bit too skeptical on that story.

point: I will believe more than I would have in the past when Clinton and Gore are the parties involved.

Yes, definitely a hoax. Also reported as false here.

Of course, as we can see, people who are gullible and narrow-minded are ready and willing to believe anything that supports their pre-conceived notions, without considering whether it might not be true, let alone looking further to find out.

Here are some good urban legend websites where you can check out whether such rumors are true:

Ken,

Those are some pretty harsh words for those of us who fell for the hoax.

I suppose they are.

There seem to be different reasons why various false urban legends make the rounds, and why people are so willing to spread them. Some, like this one as well as others surrounding 9/11, fit into a political philosophy that some people embrace. Some, like the "$250 Mrs. Field's Cookie Recipe", feed off people's desire for revenge. Some, like the "AIDS needles in pay phones" story, are so scary that they spread because people want to help other people, sometimes saying that they're doing it just in case the story is true. And some, like the "photo of the bride under the chair", are just an incredibly fun story to share, and people don't even care whether it's true or not.

Urban legends can actually be a lot of fun, as long as you don't take the false ones seriously. Just check them out before you treat them as though they were true.

Ken,

Under your avatar where it says "registered member" it should say "Mean Guy".

Haha, I am just kidding with you Ken.

I think these urban myths are fun. On HBO I saw a movie called "Urbania" that was all about Urban Myths. I don't want to give any of said myths away so as not to spoil but you will know many of them when/if you see the flick.

My opinion with urban legends is that there are so many crazy people in the world that some may want to make some legends come true. (like the flashing headlights for gang initiation one)
