I'm all for the publics opinion to speak their mind publicly, so I just wanted to "speak out publicly":

In a time of crisis, if you are not educated as to the situation at hand, do not speak out in a negative way.

For instance, last night on the drive home, I was listening to Clear Channel radio 610 and the particular show I was listening to had a man in Columbia, Maryland come on and defend protestors. Upon being asked why he protests, he said he beleives there is a better way to resolve this issue. When asked how he would do it, he says he could "Continue peace talks with Iraq". WTF?! We have NEVER had a peace talk with Iraq!! He also said he would continue signing treaties and use diplomatic means. Treaties? Good one, buddy. Use diplomatic means? What have we been doing for 12 years!? The host says: "We've been trying diplomatic talks for a while and they haven't worked, so what would you have us do?" "Try harder." He hung up on him.

That person OBVIOUSLY has NO knowledge of the situation at hand. I can't stand it because them protesting only makes Bush look worse in Iraq and only fuels Saddam to fight harder. STUPID people.

2) These protestors take for granted their ability to protest. They are openly ridiculing our President and his actions taken against a dictator that, if someone didn't CHEER for him, they were SHOT!! According to the reliable source I heard this from, we're talking about KIDS!! Kids forced from their classrooms to see Saddam on parade and if he saw one not cheering, they were SHOT. That is horrible. And yet, we're taking for granted and abusing our right to protest.

I cannot stand the ignorance and blatant stupidity some Americans exhibit.

I've observered (at least in Australia) that a majority of protestors are artistic people and university students ... they are the only ones with the spare time to go protest. Most of their arguments are unrealistic and based on misinformation (or NO information).

Hope i haven't offended anyone.

i feel the same way. i can feel your pain through mine...keep in mind that NO MATER what the president does, there will be someone that dislike just to be different. how can they protest for the war that we have? they should support our troops, and proud of the country that we live in. the very country that gives people the freedom to do almost practicely anything. what i wish is that those people go to iraq and protest sadam for using his chemical on his own people previously. or better yet, protest him to give up and have a peace talk to work things out for the better of his country. anywho, that is just my opinion.

This statement speaks volumes....

A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."

Everyone has the right to protest. I am in full support of people trying to express their view; however the protests here in the Northwest US are out of hand.

Last year in Seattle protesters destroyed downtown. Breaking windows and damaging property. It was a sad time.

Here in Portland, protesters have been doing the same. Throwing acid on cars and buildings, breaking windows, and defacing property.

Is it overstating the obvious to point out that this type of behavior tarnishes the points they are trying to make, and removes any form of credibility from their cause?

I can only pray that the War is over quickly, the strikes on Iraq and its people are well targeted, and innocent people are not put in harm's way. I am in full support of removing Saddam from power.

I do not mind the protesters and I am glad to see people express their right to assemble and express their views, even if they are not well informed. We are left to choose our own paths based on interpretations and cognation of the information we receive, but destroying property, shutting down business, and infringing on other's rights to make their own choices is not right and should not be tolerated.

As above, I wish not to offend. This is my personal opinion.

I was against the war before the bombing begain because, well, I just don't like war... But now that the bombing had begun, I give full support to our militry and our President.

Great sign Dreamer!!!

Oh and don't even get me started on the "human shield" SCHMUCKS...uyyy, they'll stand in hte way of an american bomb but not an Iraqi bullet right? Why risk your life to save, or attempt to save the life of an Iraqi that would probably be killed by the DICKtator that is already in power? DUMB.

Re: Michael Moore.

He IS an idiot.

It's a shame he never went to Iraq to make a documentary of Saddam's brutal regime.

I kept hoping that Jack Valenti would run over and rip the award out of Moore's hands.

A Letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush on the Eve of War
Monday, March 17, 2003

George W. Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, DC

Dear Governor Bush:

So today is what you call "the moment of truth," the day that "France and the rest of world have to show their cards on the table." I'm glad to hear that this day has finally arrived. Because, I gotta tell ya, having survived 440 days of your lying and conniving, I wasn't sure if I could take much more. So I'm glad to hear that today is Truth Day, 'cause I got a few truths I would like to share with you:

1. There is virtually NO ONE in America (talk radio nutters and Fox News aside) who is gung-ho to go to war. Trust me on this one. Walk out of the White House and on to any street in America and try to find five people who are PASSIONATE about wanting to kill Iraqis. YOU WON'T FIND THEM! Why? 'Cause NO Iraqis have ever come here and killed any of us! No Iraqi has even threatened to do that. You see, this is how we average Americans think: If a certain so-and-so is not perceived as a threat to our lives, then, believe it or not, we don't want to kill him! Funny how that works!

2. The majority of Americans -- the ones who never elected you -- are not fooled by your weapons of mass distraction. We know what the real issues are that affect our daily lives -- and none of them begin with I or end in Q. Here's what threatens us: two and a half million jobs lost since you took office, the stock market having become a cruel joke, no one knowing if their retirement funds are going to be there, gas now costs almost two dollars -- the list goes on and on. Bombing Iraq will not make any of this go away. Only you need to go away for things to improve.

3. As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein? The whole world is against you, Mr. Bush. Count your fellow Americans among them.

4. The Pope has said this war is wrong, that it is a SIN. The Pope! But even worse, the Dixie Chicks have now come out against you! How bad does it have to get before you realize that you are an army of one on this war? Of course, this is a war you personally won't have to fight. Just like when you went AWOL while the poor were shipped to Vietnam in your place.

5. Of the 535 members of Congress, only ONE (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't THINK so? Well, hey, guess what -- we don't think so either!

6. Finally, we love France. Yes, they have pulled some royal screw-ups. Yes, some of them can pretty damn annoying. But have you forgotten we wouldn't even have this country known as America if it weren't for the French? That it was their help in the Revolutionary War that won it for us? That our greatest thinkers and founding fathers -- Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc. -- spent many years in Paris where they refined the concepts that lead to our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution? That it was France who gave us our Statue of Liberty, a Frenchman who built the Chevrolet, and a pair of French brothers who invented the movies? And now they are doing what only a good friend can do -- tell you the truth about yourself, straight, no b.s. Quit pissing on the French and thank them for getting it right for once. You know, you really should have traveled more (like once) before you took over. Your ignorance of the world has not only made you look stupid, it has painted you into a corner you can't get out of.

Well, cheer up -- there IS good news. If you do go through with this war, more than likely it will be over soon because I'm guessing there aren't a lot of Iraqis willing to lay down their lives to protect Saddam Hussein. After you "win" the war, you will enjoy a huge bump in the popularity polls as everyone loves a winner -- and who doesn't like to see a good ass-whoopin' every now and then (especially when it 's some third world ass!). So try your best to ride this victory all the way to next year's election. Of course, that's still a long ways away, so we'll all get to have a good hardy-har-har while we watch the economy sink even further down the toilet!

But, hey, who knows -- maybe you'll find Osama a few days before the election! See, start thinking like THAT! Keep hope alive! Kill Iraqis -- they got our oil!!

Yours,

Michael Moore www.michaelmoore.com

I believe that the US is doing the right thing in this case and has made the tough choice to do what has to be done.

I support our troops 110%. I pray for people on both sides of the line.

I also support an individual's right to protest and make his/her opinion heard.

What I do not support are the growing number of protestors that are resorting to aggressive, disruptive and disgusting tactics.

Who do you benefit when you throw feces or spit at cops? What kind of example do you set when you walk in mass into a govt. building and throw up? How are you helping the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines when you impede traffic and block innocent people from going about their business?

Write your congressman. Stand on the corner with signs. Send letters to the NY Times. Demonstrate peacefully.

Just show some common freakin sense and some concern for your fellow man. Isn't that why you're there to begin with?

If i can remember correctly it was reported that some of the protests that have occured lately have been funded (you have to pay for permits) by groups that are funded by larger groups that fund pro-communism groups in addition. The money has to come from somewhere. How ironic then. These protestors are not only against a war in Iraq, they are against everything (anarchists basically)and when they get the chance to destroy and commit illegal acts in the middle of a city they jump at the opportunity.
My favorite line they use is we are an "unjust country" and that this war is "unjust". I'm not sure what their definition of "just" is but theirs is totaly obscure. They cannot even define it. I think giving them an iq of at least 50 is a little too much imo.
I strongly support Bush and the troops and am also behind them 110%.

You are right. It is asking what can war solve. But it first gives some great examples of what it has solved.

well, since everyone against the war wants to talk about economics and the historical perspective:

Our first 70 years was about territory expansion and defending that territory. Can anyone imagine what we'd be without the Louisiana purchase? Or Texas? Or more recently Alaska? Not all of this was acquired through non-violent diplomacy. In truth, without a certain amount of fighting and good old-fashioned colonialism we might not be a nation, and certainly not a superpower.

France should certainly relate to this, if you know their history. Saddam's attempt to take Kuwait was much the same. Being able to defend the land we took was the key to our prosperity.

Im not an advocate of colonialism or expansionism in the world we live in today, but we should all be aware of how this current world evolved. The human race has been fighting over land and the natural resources it represents long, long before Hollywood became an entertainment industry and a 'parasitic liveliehood' in its own right. The entertainment industry exists because we have the prosperity to support it, and that is a direct result of the 'colonialism' so abhorred by these actors.

Our continued prosperity is based upon a 'stable' world, and that means we will occasionally go to war against destabilizing influences, such as Saddam. At the end of the day, we probably arent going to war based upon 'morals and humanitarian values', but based upon global economic threats real and potential. When their is a convergence of both, then so much the better.

Their is a business parallel here that is employed by businesses everywhere throughout the world. Cooperation works up to a certain level, and when that breaks down we'll try to put you out of business. So work with us or we'll try to shut you down. Iraq has not cooperated, and we have the strength to respond.

For those who scream 'bully nation' and 'colonialism' as an argument against this war, they should recognize their own hypocrisy. They enjoy their prosperity and freedoms as a direct result of these tactics. If they are truly against this principle, then they can give their land back to the native indians. That should ease their conscience and provide just the excuse to leave Iraq for good.

j/k

Anywho, Michael Moore is an ass and obviously has very little a clue what he is talking about. No, no Iraqi has affected the lives of an American. Why? Because the ones that can are having too much fun resorting to ethnic cannibalism in that they're killing their OWN people. Genocide is wrong- bottom line.

Does anyone see the similarity here between Hitler and Saddam? I think it was pointed out before, but come on. Two absolute dictators, hungry for expansionism, only Saddam kills his own people and Hitler killed "non-arians" I don't know, I'm just ranting now...

The following is a phenomenal article and worth the read. It was forwarded
to me, without identification of the author. It appears factual. If any one
knows who Cindy Osborne is, please let me know.

Who's Smarter? by Cindy Osborne

The Hollywood group is at it again. Holding anti-war rallies, screaming
about the Bush Administration, running ads in major newspapers, defaming the
President and his Cabinet every chance they get, to anyone and everyone who
will listen. They publicly defile them and call them names like "stupid,"
"morons," and "idiots." Jessica Lange went so far as to tell a crowd in
Spain that she hates President Bush and is embarrassed to be an American.

So, just how ignorant are these people who are running the country? Let's
look at the biographies of these "stupid," "ignorant," "moronic" leaders,
and then at the celebrities who are castigating them:

President George W. Bush: Received a Bachelors Degree from Yale University
and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He served as an F-102 pilot for the
Texas Air National Guard. He began his career in the oil and gas business in
Midland in 1975 and worked in the energy industry until 1986. He was elected
Governor on November 8, 1994, with 53.5 percent of the vote. In a historic
reelection victory, he became the first Texas Governor to be elected to
consecutive four-year terms on November 3, 1998, winning 68.6 percent of the
vote. In 1998 Governor Bush won 49 percent of the Hispanic vote, 27 percent
of the African-American vote, 27 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of
women. He won more Texas counties, 240 of 254, than any modern Republican
other that Richard Nixon in 1972 and is the first Republican gubernatorial
candidate to win the heavily Hispanic and Democratic border counties of El
Paso, Cameron and Hidalgo. (Someone began circulating a false story about
his I.Q. being lower than any other President. If you believed it, you might
want to go to URBANLEGENDS.COM and see the truth.)

Vice President Dick Cheney earned a B.A. in 1965 and a M.A. in 1966, both in
political science. Two years later, he won an American Political Science
Association congressional fellowship. One of Vice President Cheney's primary
duties is to share with individuals, members of Congress and foreign
leaders, President Bush's vision to strengthen our economy, secure our
homeland and win the War on Terrorism. In his official role as President of
the Senate, Vice President Cheney regularly goes to Capitol Hill to meet
with Senators and members of the House of Representatives to work on the
Administration's legislative goals. In his travels as Vice President, he has
seen first hand the great demands the war on terrorism is placing on the men
and women of our military, and he is proud of the tremendous job they are
doing for the United States of America.

Secretary of State Colin Powell was educated in the New York City public
schools, graduating from the City College of New York (CCNY), where he
earned a Bachelor's Degree in geology. He also participated in ROTC at

CCNY and received a commission as an Army second lieutenant upon graduation
in June 1958. His further academic achievements include a Master of Business
Administration Degree from George Washington University. Secretary Powell is
the recipient of numerous U.S. and foreign military awards and decorations.
Secretary Powell's civilian awards include two Presidential Medals of
Freedom, the President's Citizens Medal, the Congressional Gold Medal, the
Secretary of State Distinguished Service Medal, and the Secretary of Energy
Distinguished Service Medal. Several schools and other institutions have
been named in his honor and he holds honorary degrees from universities and
colleges across the country.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld: attended Princeton University on
Scholarship (AB, 1954) and served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as a Naval
aviator; Congressional Assistant to Rep. Robert Griffin (R-MI), 1957-59;
U.S. Representative, Illinois, 1962-69; Assistant to the President, Director
of the Office of Economic Opportunity, Director of the Cost of Living
Council, 1969-74; U.S. Ambassador to NATO, 1973-74; head of Presidential
Transition Team, 1974; Assistant to the President, Director of White House
Office of Operations, White House Chief of Staff, 1974-77; Secretary of
Defense, 1975-77

Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge was raised in a working class
family in veterans' public housing in Erie. He earned a scholarship to
Harvard, graduating with honors in 1967. After his first year at The
Dickinson School of Law, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served
as an infantry staff sergeant in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star for Valor.
After returning to Pennsylvania, he earned his Law Degree and was in private
practice before becoming Assistant District Attorney in Erie County. He was
elected to Congress in 1982. He was the first enlisted Vietnam combat
veteran elected to the U.S. House, and was overwhelmingly reelected six
times.

National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice earned her Bachelor's Degree in
Political Science, Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of
Denver in 1974; her Master's from the University of Notre Dame in 1975; and
her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the
University of Denver in
1981. (Note: Rice enrolled at the University of Denver at the age of 15,
graduating at 19 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science (Cum Laude).
She earned a Master's Degree at the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate
from the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies.
Both of her advanced degrees are also in Political Science.)

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has been
awarded Honorary Doctorates from Morehouse College in 1991, the University
of Alabama in 1994, and the University of Notre Dame in 1995. At Stanford,
she has been a member of the Center for International Security and Arms
Control, a Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a
Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. Her books include Germany
Unified and Europe Transformed (1995) with Philip Zelikow, The Gorbachev Era
(1986) with Alexander Dallin, and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and
the Czechoslovak Army (1984). She also has written numerous articles on
Soviet and East European foreign and defense policy, and has addressed
audiences in settings ranging from the U.S. Ambassador's Residence in Moscow
to the Commonwealth Club to the 1992 and 2000 Republican National
Conventions. From 1989 through March 1991, the period of German
reunification and the final days of the Soviet Union, she served in the Bush
Administration as Director, and then Senior Director, of Soviet and East
European Affairs in the National Security Council, and a Special Assistant
to the President for National Security Affairs. In 1986, while an
international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, she served
as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 1997,
she served on the Federal Advisory Committee on Gender -- Integrated
Training in the Military. She was a member of the boards of directors for
the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the William and
Flora Hewlett Foundation, the University of Notre Dame, the International
Advisory Council of J.P. Morgan and the San Francisco Symphony Board of
Governors. She was a Founding Board member of the Center for a New
Generation, an educational support fund for schools in East Palo Alto and
East Menlo Park, California and was Vice President of the Boys and Girls
Club of the Peninsula. In addition, her past board service has encompassed
such organizations as Transamerica Corporation, Hewlett Packard, the
Carnegie Corporation, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Rand
Corporation, the National Council for Soviet and East European Studies, the

Francisco. Born November 14, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama, she earned her
bachelor's degree in political science, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from
the University of Denver in 1974; her Master's from the University of Notre
Dame in 1975; and her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International
Studies at the University of Denver in 1981. She is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from
Morehouse College in 1991, the University of Alabama in 1994, and the
University of Notre Dame in 1995. She resides in Washington, D.C.

So who are these celebrities? What is their education? What is their
experience in affairs of State or in National Security? While I will defend
to the death their right to express their opinions, I think that if they are
going to call into question the intelligence of our leaders, we should also
have all the facts on their educations and background:

Barbra Streisand: Completed high school Career: Singing and acting

Cher: Dropped out of school in 9th grade. Career: Singing and acting

Martin Sheen Flunked exam to enter University of Dayton. Career: Acting

Jessica Lange Dropped out college mid-freshman year. Career: Acting

Alec Baldwin Dropped out of George Washington U. after scandal Career:
Acting

Julia Roberts Completed high school Career: Acting

Sean Penn Completed High school Career: Acting

Susan Sarandon Degree in Drama from Catholic University of America in
Washington, D.C. Career: Acting

Ed Asner Completed High school Career: Acting

George Clooney Dropped out of University of Kentucky Career: Acting

Michael Moore Dropped out first year University of Michigan. Career: Movie
Director

Sarah Jessica Parker: Completed High School Career: Acting

Jennifer Anniston: Completed High School Career: Acting

Mike Farrell Completed High school Career: Acting

Janeane Garofelo Dropped out of College. Career: Stand up comedienne

Larry Hagman Attended Bard College for one year. Career: Acting

While comparing the education and experience of these two groups, we should
also remember that President Bush and his cabinet are briefed daily, even
hourly, on the War on Terror and threats to our security. They are privy to
information gathered around the world concerning the Middle East, the
threats to America, the intentions of terrorists and terrorist-supporting
governments. They are in constant communication with the CIA, the FBI,
Interpol, NATO, The United Nations, our own military, and that of our allies
around the world. We cannot simply believe that we have full knowledge of
the threats because we watch CNN!! We cannot believe that we are in any way
as informed as our leaders.

These celebrities have no intelligence-gathering agents, no fact-finding
groups, no insight into the minds of those who would destroy our country.
They only have a deep seated hatred for all things Republican. By nature,
and no one knows quite why, the Hollywood elitists detest Conservative views
and anything that supports or uplifts the United States of America. The
silence was deafening from the Left when Bill Clinton bombed a
pharmaceutical factory outside of Khartoum, or when he attacked the Bosnian
Serbs in 1995 and 1999. He bombed Serbia itself to get Slobodan Milosevic
out of Kosovo, and not a single peace rally was held. When our Rangers were
ambushed in Somalia and 18 young American lives were lost, not a peep was
heard from Hollywood. Yet now, after our nation has been attacked on its own
soil, after 3,000 Americans were killed by freedom-hating terrorists while
going about their routine lives, they want to hold rallies against the war.
Why the change? Because an honest, God-fearing Republican sits in the White
House.

Another irony is that in 1987, when Ronald Reagan was in office, the
Hollywood group aligned themselves with disarmament groups like SANE, FREEZE
and PEACE ACTION, urging our own government to disarm and freeze the
manufacturing of any further nuclear weapons, in order to promote world
peace. It is curious that now, even after we have heard all the evidence
that Saddam Hussein has chemical, biological and is very close to obtaining
nuclear weapons, their is no cry from this group for HIM to disarm. They
believe we should leave him alone in his quest for these weapons of mass
destruction, even though it is certain that these deadly weapons will
eventually be used against us in our own cities.

So why the hype out of Hollywood? Could these celebrities believe that since
they draw such astronomical salaries, they are entitled to also determine
the course of our Nation? That they can make viable decisions concerning war
and peace? Did Michael Moore have the backing of the Nation when he recently
thanked France, on our behalf, for being a "good enough friend to tell us we
were wrong"? I know for certain he was not speaking for me. Does Sean Penn
fancy himself a Diplomat, in going to Iraq when we are just weeks away from
war? Does he believe that his High School Diploma gives him the knowledge
(and the right) to go to a country that is controlled by a maniacal
dictator, and speak on behalf of the American people? Or is it the fact that
he pulls in more money per year than the average American worker will see in
a lifetime? Does his bank account give him clout?

The ultimate irony is that many of these celebrities have made a shambles of
their own lives, with drug abuse, alcoholism, numerous marriages and
divorces, scrapes with the law, publicized temper tantrums, etc. How dare
they pretend to know what is best for an entire nation! What is even more
bizarre is how many people in this country will listen and accept their
views, simply because they liked them in a certain movie, or have fond
memories of an old television sitcom!

It is time for us, as citizens of the United States, to educate ourselves
about the world around us. If future generations are going to enjoy the
freedoms that our forefathers bequeathed us, if they are ever to know peace
in their own country and their world, to live without fear of terrorism
striking in their own cities, we must assure that this nation remains
strong. We must make certain that those who would destroy us are made aware
of the severe consequences that will befall them.

Yes, it is a wonderful dream to sit down with dictators and terrorists and
join hands, singing Cumbaya and talking of world peace. But it is not real.
We did not stop Adolf Hitler from taking over the entire continent of Europe
by simply talking to him. We sent our best and brightest, with the strength
and determination that this Country is known for, and defeated the Nazi
regime. President John F. Kennedy did not stop the Soviet ships from
unloading their nuclear missiles in Cuba in 1962 with mere words. He stopped
them with action, and threat of immediate war if the ships did not turn
around. We did not end the Cold War with conferences. It ended with the
strong belief of President Ronald Reagan... PEACE through STRENGTH
