Friday at Buttonwillow; September 20th, 2002

Price: $125 ( + $20 instructor fee required for novices )

Duration: 1 day: 2.5 hours of track time per group!**

Track: Buttonwillow Raceway (near Bakersfield)

Registration: Registration online at http://speedventures.net/event_forms.asp

Event Info:

At 3 miles, Buttonwillow is the longest and most technical track in the Los Angeles area. With twenty-three turns, three major elevation changes, the banked "Riverside" sweeper, and a perfect drift over "Lost Hill" (AKA "Magic Mountain"), Buttonwillow offers both a unique learning environment, and a challenge to advanced drivers. We will be running the full track in race configuration #1, counter-clockwise, as highlighted in yellow below. This track is suitable for street cars, though we suggest that the Riverside turn should be approached at conservative speeds of 70-80 mph in cars without race rollover protection. The remainder of the turns on this track are moderate-speed (35 - 70mph). Turns have wide runoff areas, clear of major obstacles.

There will be three run groups at this event, and registration is limited to keep traffic light.

Potential Bonus: We are attempting to work out a deal to allow single dyno pulls at the track for people at discount prices (something less than $30). If you are interested, please mention it in the "comments" field of your registration form, and we'll get back to you about it. Thanks!

This is a great deal at an excellent track. If you're interested, please see for registration.

so is this a corvette event?? any others interested? I'm thinking of making it-

FLuxen-what about additional drivers in the novice class?? I promised my GF she could try this one day.....=)

Hi. It's not just a Corvette event, I'm just lazy and cut and pasted the post from the Corvette board, and didn't notice the Corvette part. The biggest numbers of cars there will be vettes and S2000's, as usual at our events, but any make is welcome. Just look at our event results for an idea of the cars out there: http://speedventures.net/event_results.asp

As to your other question, it depends. If you're saying both of you would want to run in the novice group, that's fine; there's no additional fee since you'll have to share the run sessions. If one of you were going to run in novice, and the other in intermediate, then it's two seperate registration fees (since you're taking up the track space of 2 cars).

Any other questions, just let me know. Thanks.

Well, so far no NSX's, though we've had a few at our last couple of WSIR events. Here're the cars registered to date, fyi:

cmake cmodel
Acura Integra Type R
Audi S4
Chevrolet Corvette
Dodge Viper
Ford SVT Mustang
Honda S2000
Nissan Altima
Nissan Sentra SE-R

Now I'm confused

There are 3 run groups, each of which gets 5x30 minute sessions. If you left after 2, you'd only get 1 hour on the track...is that what you're asking?

sorry Fluxen- yes I was just wondering that because I might have to leave before the last session starts, thats all...will I lose out on that session and pay full price??

Well, we don't really do that, because we have no way to police who's leaving early, etc., and we can't really start selling half days to people, which is the way it would turn out.

Anyway, hope to see you at the track!
