I just had my first track experience this weekend at ButtonWillow Raceway. Although I've autocrossed once and had Paul T and some others throw me around the course another time, I wanted someone to teach me the basics so I signed up for their High Performance Driving Clinic.

This is not a paid endorsement

but I wanted to let any newbie racers out there how impressed I was with the quality of their instructors and the program. For about $165.00 it was a bargain even without the free T-Shirt!

The way they run the school is by dividing the class into returning and new-to-the-track groups. The returning group has a quick orientation and then they head out to the West loop...

... until lunch with breaks whenever they want to pit or pickup an instuctor. The new group spends about an hour learning basics of braking, apex, etc and then they head out to the East loop...

...for several 20 minute sessions broken up by more in-class instruction and instructor observations.

After lunch, they open up the track to this configuration...

...and alternate new/returning groups in 20 minute sessions until they close the track at 4:30. When you're not on track, they open up the skid-pad with instructors and you can go experiment as much as you want.

The instructors were great and I can't say enough about their attention and help. I was able to pull an additional gear through the majority of the course due to their instruction by the end of the day!

If you're new to your NSX or racing (I'm both) and want to have some fun and not damage your car (I drove off the course at Lost Hill with 0.00 damage to anything but my ego), I think this is a great track and a great clinic.

Again, no this is not a paid endorsement

I hope this encourages some of the newer owners to get out there and as one of the instructors said, "Let their car breathe"
