Had an accident !!

I had an absolutely awfull day yesterday !!
What I have always been afraid of and wanted to avoid most of all has happened. I have had an accident with my NSX. After all the track-driving I have done at Spa this weekend and the, let we say, spirited driving to and from Spa I was, as always, happy to be home safe and sound again.
Yesterday, as usual, I went to work again and around 7:00 PM had just filled up and started going home again. At a traffic light I waited until the light turned green. When I starten started moving again suddenly, out of nowhere, a red Volkswagen Golf appeared from the right, driving through the red light and catching my NSX in the right flink, hitting the right wheel.
Fortunately, the driver admitted driving to the red immediately. Also, three people came up to me and offered themselves as witnesses, something I've never have experienced before. The police was called and after writing down both parties stories my poor NSX was towed away.
I called Michel (DutchBlackNSX) from the scene and judiging off-hand from my story he judged the damage to be around 5000 Euros.
I've made some pictures on the spot. The can be found here http://www.webphotos.com/view_photo.asp?mi=1&smi=1&a=70827&p=1894565

I justed hated to see my dear NSX damaged. Especially in such a stupid kind of accident. Honestly speaking, I hardly slept last night. I think all NSX-drivers dread the idea of becoming involved in an accident, knowing perfectly well how expensive repairs on a NSX can be. I just hope the repair will be quick and expertly done.
I keep you all posted on this.

Hi MVM,

Maybe that we can both join the "damaged a 30th September NSX Club" !

I damaged my NSX yesterday too in a contact with an almost 30 tons truck ! ARGHHHHHH!

Fortunately for me, the damages are not so bad...just a little dent in the rear left panel and one little scratch but not deep (thanks to my 30 coats of Zaino).

Don't worry about your repair, I am sure that your NSX will be as nice than before the accident.

Regards,

David

Hi Enzo,

I'm very sorry to hear about your accident. Just came of the phone with the repair company who were pretty sure they would be able to fix it as new again. They just had some trouble with the double-alarm my car has. Actually, it's the suspension I am most worried about.
For now I just hope they will be able to fix the car before the end of the month because I have a trackday in Assen on the 26th and one on the 30th in Zolder, Belgium.

In a way it's kind of funny that you can be driving for months at high speeds (100+ mph) on highways and tracks without problems and then something silly as this happens.
What has been good however that almost everyone I seem to meet now (tow-away-truck, repair company) seem to be sorry for you and are doing their best to treat the car as something special.

Argh! Terrible!

I am so sorry for both of you!

I had something similar happened to me the 1st Febraury this year: a man coming out from nowhere hit my NSX in the front right corner at 20 kmh involving fender, wheel, headlight, upper&lower bumper and scraper. No suspension or mechanical damage fortunately. Everything was changed with new OEM parts and painted at Honda in a perfect way. Of course it ended up to be very expensive for the other person... 20'000 CHF!!!
eek.gif
(this converts to 13'000 Euros, not bad for a small damage!).
Really, looking at the car the parts were only slightly bended but I accpted no fix-up repairs: I wanted the car same or better than before!

Drawback: I was without NSX for three weeks and had to use a Honda Logo, also paid by the other party...

David, will you come to the meeting Saturday?

Again, very sorry for both of you!

PS this forced me to transform the NSX in a "nice-weather" car and buy a Renaut Clio for the rain duty...

The other driver told me that because of the rain he did not notice me

but that was more than enough to convince me...

I remember, last time I've seen your car it looked much nicer ! -D
Shit happens but I think it's not really bad. I was in about the same situation a couple of months ago. You should insist on
changing the damaged parts instead of fixing them. You have the right to let your car rebuild like it was before, although the insurance co. will try to let it repair.
(it's cheaper for them).
BTW, on my way back to Antwerp, I was stopped by the cops..again. Luckely for me,
I was doing only 160 km/h so they couldn't
keep my driver's license.
Good luck with the repair.

Of course you have to take new parts: I had the garage (biggest Honda dealership of the zone, it is not my usual garage but is the most expensive and more OEM oriented) call the insurance and told them that all the parts touched HAD to be replaced since the value of a car like the NSX would be strongly affected by a repair, even a good one!

Maarten,

Looking at the guy in the golf i'm not suprised

.
As Duke said, let the insurancecompany pay for new parts. Let them show you the genuine Honda partsslip (the red ones). Also be advised that you do not have to get youre car repaired at the place the insurancecompany tells you to. Be very carefull. The bodyworkcompany's who work together with the insurancecompany's, do pay the insurancecompany's for this. I know firsthand, not that it is a secrect.
Also make sure you find yourself a very good bodyshop. Speak to the owner, and try to get the rearbumper repainted as well in the price. They will do this sort of thing. Especially since it will be a nice figure ($$$). At least you can get something postive out of it

Enzo,

You must be really P***** off because off this, knowing how you take care of youre NSX.
Hope you can get it fixed. Let us know.
(spoke to Enzo at the weekend, and he also had his footwell-speaker go south)
(ps, i wont be at Laneau du Rhin)

Duke,

Good luck with youre fine

Hi everybody,

Thank you very much for your support !

But really, the damages are not that bad and some of you (Mich, Gheba) know how MANIAC I am with my NSX !
wink.gif

Tomorrow, I will post some pictures of my wrecked NSX !

Gheba,

About Saturday, don't worry, I will be there !

Hi Maarten,

How a great weekend can end. Luckely the VW didn't hit your door. The damage is pretty good repairable. If you need a good bodyshop I can recommend one. They have done a great job on mine a few years ago and now they have to repair my raceaccident damage I had on Magny Course.

Be carefull that they use the right color formule. It is very tricky nowadays, because your original paint is oilbased. The paint they will use will be waterbased (because of envirement regulations). So you need a very very... professional painter.

Is it right, that I see that your whisbone is cracked?

BTW. My car is still in Belgium and will be transported to Holland at the end of the week. I think I have a major engine damage. This will cost me a lot time (and money) to fix.

So now I have 2 NSX'es at the repair shop.

Have luck and w'll meet again soon.

Gerard

Hmm ! I thought that the NSX was one of the first car with a waterbased paint ?

Am i wrong ?

David

PS : Gerard, I am sorry to hear about your problems !

The repaired parts on my car look perfect and very smooth, even under a blue light yodo not see any difference. This was possible since the parts were new and they came prepared for the final painting from Honda Europe.

Do you now know if the wishbone is cracked? Because mine was only a mestic damage and costed a lot to repair properly. The tech told me that with suspension damages the price would have been considerably higher. Luckily the cosmetic damage on yours involves less parts than on mine. Keep us updated and again good luck! (I was the nightmare of my garage
wink.gif
I came down every day after work to look at the car!

).

David, see you saturday! I know what you mean by MANIAC... I know many others!

Hello Maart,
Just to say I am sad to read about your accident : (
Some drivers should not be allowed on the road

Hoping your NSX will soon be repaired O.K
All the best,
Magdalena

I'm HAPPY again !!!!
This morning I picked up my NSX in repaired state.
It's OK again and so I feel OK as well. Total damage amount is still unknown but in all the damage was not severe. The upper triangle of the suspension was replaced for sure, about the rest I'm not sure yet.
Car felt good on the road but since it was commuting time I couldn't really try the steering. Did not feel any different than before though.
