So a 2002 NSX R is 2799. has anyone put their T on a scale? I want to put my 2002 on a bit of a diet. Already done- no spare or tool kit, light wheels (SSR's), Tein coil overs, K-craft CF mirrors, wipers are removed, next is seats (Sparco, REV's or Recaro's, SPG's) and new steering wheel. Any other ideas within reason? The 2002 is already a bit less weight than pre 02 cars due to the fixed headlights. So how did Honda get the R to 2800 LBS?
The T is good for an extra 75-100 but is that it?

What about your battery? The engine lid on the T is heavy, change that for a CF one. Remove all carpet, and soundproofing. Japanese cars aren't usually undersealed. Take out your A/C and stereo.

Don't forget the all important replacing of shift lever boot, with a CF one!

For what is worth my 97-T with some weight reduction is down to 3020 lbs wet . (no spare, no tools, no mats, with stereo, CD changer, ac, full interior, Type-S seats, racing battery, fire extinquisher and bracket, comptech headers/exhaust, Tein RA's, CC engine cover, 17x7 1/2 18x9 TE37's with S03's 215/40R17 and 265/35R18s.) the only other changes that I would go for would be swapping the steering wheel but that would be about it. Getting a 2002 down to 2800 might be a bit extreme, and you will probably end up gutting your brand new car :( Unless you are taking the car to the track the weight reduction for the sake of weight reduction is pretty much pointless..)

Change out the exhaust, headers, and cat. Replace steel bumper bars with aluminium versions. Replace stock battery with lightweight one. Install Stoptech AeroRotors. Get rid of stereo and AC. Actually, sabotage AC and tell wife it'd be easier to just get rid of it than to try and get it fixed and, after all, you're just looking out for your family's interests.

You should now be down to about 2700lbs.

For what it's worth, I had my coupe (European model) weighed in December and with a full tank it was 3086 lbs (1400kg) in standard form with Dali radiator shield, CD-player & bracket. My car has BBS RSII wheels in 17/18 format which are heavier than stock.

I am planning to do the following to the car within a month or so.
- remove spare wheel and mounting bracket
- remove toolsset minus pump and jack
- replace battery with Odyssey 680
- replace OEM shocks with TEIN-RA set
- replace front rotors with Aerorotors

If my calculations are right, these things alone will save me 89lbs (or 40.5kg), bringing total weight down to 2997lbs.

Ponyboy, do you now the difference in weight between the steel and alu bumper bars ??

Unfortunately I don't. I wish I did. I'm planning this mod for the winter months. The only person I know of who did this was Hayashi and it may be somewhere on his website. The shop that built the aluminium bumper was NSX Modified so I kind doubt that we can get good information from them. But I know Hayashi's site has pics of it if you're thinking about fabbing it yourself.

If you can wait until the winter, I'll get you the measurements and general design of the bumper bar.

Aluminum Bumper Beams

It is my understanding that all of the cars got the aluminum bumper beams with the introduction of the nsx-t. The explanation that I got was that this was an effort to make up for some of the weight that was added to the 'T.

hope this is correct and I hope it helps :)

NSX Diet

My 2002 NSX has an aluminum rear bumper. I had to take the rear bumper cover off to install the Carbon Kevlar Rear Diffuser and found it to be aluminum.
I will try to find a CAT scale this weekend. I have just put the Tein RA's on. Seats, Bat, Steering wheel will be on in the next few weeks.

Exhaust has been replaced with JGTC Light Weight center exit. Headers are comptech, Bumper bars are aluminum. I will keep the AC. Thanks

Yeah, I just heard the same thing about the rear aluminium bumper. But I deduce that the front is still steel.

Good weight reduction measures. Let me know what she weighs when you find out.

I read that you have put on the TEIN-RA. Have you had time to test them? Can you tell them what your impressions are ??

Would like to know what your car weighs. Is it a T or a coupe??

the difference is about 6 lbs. that's for the rear; it doesn't appear the front has been changed.

larry long did the conversion and his weight measurements were 22 and 15.8 lbs. someone here on this board reported coming across a figure of 5.5 lbs for the differential, but from an unknown source.

If it helps, the S2000 steering wheel was about 2lbs lighter than my stock EK civic wheel, and I'm told it should fit an NSX. In addition to it, the single airbag clip fits the same so you've got a working airbag.
