Canadian GP

I go to the Canadian GP every year. Have been going since 1986. I live in NJ, so I take the NY Thruway all the way to the border. You are right Pix, the ride, especially above Albany is incredible. Don't know if I can drive the NSX this year (I just got it a month ago) because there are 11 of us on the trip. But if I did, I would fear for my driver's license! I have made the trip in the following cars, and keep in mind its about 500 miles:
Porsche 944 - 6 hours
Ferrari 328 - 8 hours
Corvette Conv - 6.5 (nonstop on 1 tank of gas)
RX-7 Turbo - 8 hours
Miata - 8.5 hours
2nd gen RX-7 - 8.5
NSX - 6? ha ha ha
If you decide to go, you will have an incredible time. Montreal is a great town, and really comes out to party during Grand Prix weekend.:D

hey 9000,
yes, i enjoy the city of montreal. i was there on business for a few days last year, and would like to return. where do you get your tix?
i think you should take nsx! nothing wrong with a caravan! and maybe i can follow you guys in! get a few more nsx's and we'll have a great drive!

I used to use Grand Prix Tours www.gptours.com. Really great company. They get the best hotels and tickets, but you do pay a premium. They do add a cocktail party with 2 drivers for a question and answer session on Friday night, and a formal dinner/auction with some more drivers or team owners on Saturday night, but my group has done that so many times, we now rather get the tickets directly from the Grand Prix itself at www.grandprix.ca. The other problem is where to stay. All the hotels block out that week so they won't take a reservation. I have put my name on a number of hotel waiting lists in the past and have gotten calls in the few weeks before the race that they have had rooms open up. Or, generally the hotel that you stay in this year will allow you to reserve for the next year if you reserve in September. I did find a fairly nice hotel out by Olympic Stadium that is cheap and clean. Its a metro ride ino the center of town where all the nightly action is, but the metro is the ONLY way to get around Montreal. It is fast, cheap and super safe. In fact, you must use the Metro to get to the track, as it is on an island. I strongly recommend going as it is one big party in Montreal. Also, in the past Honda has set up a HUGE tent in the infield where they literally put every product they sell on display, from a $50 weed whacker and lawn equipment, to their marine engines, all the Honda and Acura models and even 2 current F1 cars and a current F1 engine. The tent was even air conditioned! While the last 3 cars I have owned have been Acura/Hondas, as an Italian, and an F1 fan for over 20 years, I am a HUGE Ferrari fan. Sorry!!!!! hahahaha.

I am in for the caravan and get together in Montreal! Please post this in the new england region section, too!

hey tiger,
that sounds like a plan. i'll post in the NE section.
peter mills just left my house 2 minutes ago, i should have dropped the idea in his ear as well.

9000, it sounds like it would be best to go with a group or individual that has past experience in getting to and from the track, as well as somone who has a general familiarity of the city. hopefully we can get a good group together.

accomodations are a different story. i know how it is during those 'event' weekends. maybe i'll get in touch with my business contacts and hope for the best. otherwise it sounds like i'll be sleeping in the car! ;^)

No problem. I would be happy to share my local knowledge. Getting to the track is a cinch! Its a stop on the metro, and no other stop has 50,000 people wearing Michael Schumacher hats getting off! ha ha ha
