JGTC NSX better vs JGTC Modena?

I have been trying to get people into JGTC racing
http://www.jgtc.net/index_en.htm
especially since speedchannel started showing snippets of the 2002 series (even though they insist on showing reruns of NyaScar). I am sure we have all noticed the two classes of JGTC which are GT500 and the slower GT300 class.

I have been asked why such cars as the Dodge Viper, Chevy Corvette ZO6, Porche GTR, Modena 360 etc. (which would normally give the NSX some serious competition one street/track) are only in the 300 class where the NSX (with the exception of one) Compete in the GT500 class along with the Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline, McLaren F1 supercar, etc.

The best speculative answer I can come up with is that our NSXs are capable of maintaining the power output consistently withough putting enough strain on the engines that they could not compete or complete the race. This sounds like too simple an explanation. Can anyone of you technical/race buffs shed some light here.

I tried to watch JGTC and I was very excited before the season started, but it sucks IMO because only little bits of the race is seen. I know for a fact that I would love it if Speed did the race just like F1, with practice followed by qualification, and then some interviews and then the race from start to finish. No flames please but IMHO I cant get into it without knowing more about the rules the drivers and so on... But I do like nsxs beating the 360. The only reason I said this is because you are trying to get people to watch but in its current state its not really worth watching cause its hard to get into with only clips of a racing action.

I don't have the answer to your question, but I'll take a stab in the dark. MONEY.

It costs a lot more money to build a car in the 500 class than the 300 class. Since it's a Japanese race, there are going to be more money pumped into the Japanese cars. I'm not sure, but some of them may be factory teams. The U.S. cars such as the Corvettes, are most likely just privateer efforts with smaller budgets, hence the lower class. I'm sure those cars could easily compete and beat the NSX if they really tried (read: had more money.) Just look at the Corvettes that won at Lemans.

I wish they would bring a JGTC Nsx to compete in the ALMS or Grand Am series, that would be awesome!

I agree somewhat with what your saying. However, with even short clips of the race, it was a joy to watch the NSXs compete. I have sent numerous emails to Speedchannel complaining about their annoying bombardment of NyaScar. I despise NASCAR. If you want to learn more about JGTC just click on the links I provided. If I knew of a place to purchase DVDs of JGTC races in English I would tell you:(

Well cars in the GT500 class have around 500hp. Cars in the GT300 class have around 300hp. A stock ZO6, 360, Viper, etc. have more than 300hp. Infact, arent they close to or over the 400hp mark? Then wouldnt it be a matter of squeezing an extra 50-100hp more from the engine, stripping the car, slapping some fiberglass/carbonfiber panels for earodynamics, along with front/rear spoilers? Take a close look at the cars listed in the 300 and 500 class. The Mazda RX7 only competes in the 300 class. I would think Mazda would pump some money into getting that car into the GT500 class. I agree that money is a factor. But there is a more limiting factor.

Is there anyone on this furom (I know there are a few;) ) that can translate a letter in Japanese for me so I can email it 100 times to JGTC.net for an answer to my query. Oh, and for a means or way to purchase past races.

Do you guys think if we email speedchannal (NyaaaaasCar network) to show more of JGTC it would get a response? I need a collective effort. I love watching the Comptech NSX compete. But JGTC is a whole other level of racing. Come on guys. Help me out please. Who knows, maybe my emails helped a lil to get the JGTC tease we got on speed channel....

well if you email me your letter, i'll get one of the teachers to translate it for ya, hows that? :D If you guys really want to watch jgtc move to japan, you lazy buggers! You can watch it on my tele! :D the WHOLE race plus pre race interviews :p

[email protected] for the letter.

I thought JGTC is televised in English in Australia and parts of Europe. In any case, I think it's cheaper to ask you to record the races and ship them to me. So AJ...how much we talkin';)

Oh, I will type of the letter and send it to you ASAP. Hmm, think you can get me some cool Jap anime too? DragonBall Z, Cowboy Bebop, Yuyu Hakisho, Etc.?

You know what....I'm just gonna move to Japan. How much do Firemen over there make:D

I was under the impression that the 300 class cars were closer to moded stock or street cars hence less power/wght then the 500 cars which are purpose built race cars(silluete),yes no?

Nic pictures! I was actually at the Suzuka race last year and saw that Modena.

My friend tells me the 500 and 300 class represents horsepower, and some of the cars are de-tuned to meet those specifications. For example, the McClaren has more power in stock form and had been lowered to compete with the others. So, I assume the Viper and similar cars have also went through the same treatment.

Side note: the loudest cars on the track have to be the RX-7... by far!

Okay, Optikal and Aj, you gotta give me some tips on planning to go to Japan to attend at least one JGTC race!!

Hey guys share the wealth. Where did you get those great pics?

Optikal, Why detune the Viper and other cars with close to 500hp? Why wouldn't they let them race in the GT500 class?

This is starting to make my mind itch:p

That's a good question, I don't know but I'll take a stab at it. The engines in the 500 class are modded quite heavily and are not necessarily the same engines you'll find in a NSX or Supra. (There is an American Racing NSX in GT300, which has the normal 3.2 as compared to a MOBIL 1 with a 3.5) So, it may be easier and less expensive to restrict an engine's power output in a Viper to compete in a class that still remains competetive. I think you'll find that most teams in the 300 class are smaller teams compared to the 500 class, maybe in exception to the Autobacs sponsored MR-S.

But I assume not every team wants to compete in the 500 class anyways. Which is also the reason why ALMS has three different classes during a race. Wouldn't you agree that traffic during a race creates some pretty exciting possibilities!

When are planning on going to Japan? And what race track do you plan to visit? I price matters for you, I saw plan fares dip to $500 in the fall season. Which would be just in time for Round 8 at Suzuka. Then you can see who the overall winner is and attend the festivities afterwards, plus you can see NSX Fiesta!!!!!!

I think a lot of the decisions around 300 vs. 500 class really do come down to the amount of money backing the team in question. There are also some interesting and complex regulations in GT racing. When I was following the Corvette team I remember reading up on some unexpected stuff...

Doesn't the JGTC official site has enough great pics already?

You would think so right?! Well, I guess I'm a little bit obsessed with JGTC. You see, on my old computer I had about a hundred different pics of JGTC race cars/queens (ahem)...mostly NSXs though (obviously).

$500!!...Really...Ive had idle conversation with friends that frequent Japan and Thailand often. They say that a round trip to Japan could cost me as much as $3000.00:eek:!! I guess this must be in the summer time. Infact, I wanted to attend the Suzuka event..However, I never even considered NSXfiesta!!! (Didn't know it was around that time). This is too good. Optikal, If you can private me or email me [email protected] I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to start planning now :D :D :D anybody wanna go to!?!?!
