Met my NSXs first owner

While getting a new cd changer installed in my NSX I was waiting inside a mini theater within the store when a guy walks in.

He had a huge smile on his face and said "Hi, Are you Kevin?!"

He then introduced himself as the previous owner (he checked the VIN). Ironically he was there for a speaker install in his prowler. Being a rich music mixer of some sort he owns many cars. He explained that he purchased a couple vipers and left the NSX outside due to lack of inside space (I will hold that against him). Feeling like the car was going to be neglected he went ahead and sold it to a small exotic car dealership where I shortly came in and gave her a home. I admit I was nervous since the car looks little like it did when I bought it with the JGTC body kit, lower suspension, and HRE rims. Despite the changes he was quite impressed and happy to see the car was kept in great condition. As the previous owner, for some reason, his approval meant alot to me. Sort of like asking the father to marry his daughter (if that makes any sense).

Funny thing is, He admitted that he regrets selling the car and offered to buy it off of me if I ever wanted to sell (ironically the owner of the dealership said the same thing). He said he bought a Ferrari after selling the NSX (won't hold it against him).

Just thought I would share that experience. It was rather interesting. It seems everyone I know who has sold their NSX regrets it. Says alot about the car doesn't it.

Hey that's kinda cool. I know that if (when) I get my NSX, should I ever happen to sell it (only for an upgrade), I would want to know that it is well taken car of. It would be nice to have enough money not to have to sell/trade it for an upgrade, though, and should that happen, I'd keep it for sentimental reasons.

Here's an interesting phenomenon. I have found, from discussions with NSX owners, that when selling an NSX, quite a few will turn down offers from potential buyers who they think will not take good care of the car, and may even sell the car for less to someone who will take good care of the car. I find that fascinating.

I made a connection with my car's original owner too. The car was at an Acura dealer and his name happened to be on the inside cover of the owners manual. The cars condition seemed to check out ok but I still felt indecision not knowing its past.

Anyway I tracked down the original owner to the other side of the country and gave him a call. Well after speaking with him and his wife for awhile their passion for the car became very clear.... His wife said he was always cleaning and waxing it and they both missed it very much. Hearing this made me feel much better and sealed my decision to buy it.

Funny how guys will care this much about the NSX, but we'd never treat our 1st Girlfriend like that... LOL

BladesNSX: the only thing i would hold against the original owner is why buy two vipers when he already had one nsx??????? :D great story though...

That's 'cuz my first girlfriend wouldn't give me the time of day anymore. ;)

And she never brought as many smiles to my face as my NSX. :D

Any pictures of your car Blades?

Actually, I plan on taking some time on my next day off and cleaning the NSX (funny how spending the better part of the day cleaning the NSX, or any beloved car, can relieve stress). After that I think I will take a couple photo shots...Honestly I was planning on finishing the JGTC look before I posted pics...but finances are getting tight so might as well do it now. Maybe by sun. I can get the pics on:D

Due to the fact that I am now working abroad, and it was cost prohibitive to bring my NSX with me, I sold my NSX 2 months ago. Not a day doesn't go by when I miss driving it. As much as I miss the NSX, I take comfort in that I sold it to a friend who I know will take care of the car. It's pretty neat though, as I have kept in touch with the previous owner of the NSX on and off over the past 3 1/2 years that I owned the car, and I've introduced the previous and new owners via email. Seems like we've built a small community around this car. It's things like this that make the ownership experience that much more unique.

If you are in the Dallas, TX area, and think you may be one of the previous owners of "our" '92 White/Black NSX (before the person I bought it from), feel free to drop me an email!

Boo hoo, such a sad story. That's what you get for selling it. Just kidding. I'm happy you sold to such a good friend and I'm sure he will drive the hell out of it. But seriously, I bought Ben's NSX and I'm enjoying it every day. Knowing that a friend took such good care of the car made the purchase easy and stress free. It's too bad that I won't ever be able to drive my NSX with Ben when he gets a new one since the Pacific Ocean separates us. At least he can check it out when he visits my home town.:p

I got my NSX in July '97 and still keep in touch with the previous owner. He's a car guy and took care of the NSX. It was his obsession but he had to let go of it since he couldn't enjoy it as much as he wanted to due to the winters in Fargo, ND. He regretted selling the car but feels at ease knowing the car is in "good hands." We email several times a year and he gets updated pictures of the car. He's happy that he sold the car to me, someone who is enthusiastic about the car as much as he is.

Too bad, my car's original owner is Charlie Sheen. Do you think I have any chance to meet him in person :D or his wife haha?. Anyhow, just a thought. The car is in great shape though.

If you check under the seats, instead of finding the original key (as other prime users have recently) you may find a small stash of drugs! that's your 'key' to go visit him in prison afterall. ;)
