"beater" NSX value

Reading about the yellow NSX for sale on E-bay that's the subject of the recent thread started by JSpec got me thinking: How much is a "beater" early NSX worth? The yellow E-bay car could be a good example of the kind of vehicle I'm talking about--obviously repainted, likely major bodywork, very worn interior. It has some value----$5000? $10000? $15000? $20000? More?

Hmm. I dunno, if I had a job that paid less, I'd probably be willing to buy an outright beater NSX. As it is, I bought a high-mile NSX with interior wear and rock chips.

If I were going to buy something as dodgy as the yellow '92, though, I wouldn't pay much. The repaint seems thorough, though it's hard to tell paint quality. Some of the panels don't align right, so it has probably been in an accident. Who knows what else is wrong with it, though?

Maybe 15k, not that anyone selling a dodgy NSX is going to go that low. :) They'll just wait for a sucker to pay full price, like whoever has bid 26k on this one.

Obviously we don't know the true extent of the body work but assuming there is no major structural or frame damage, I think 15-20k is fair.

The above price is contingent on the idea that you are going to track that car or use it as a beater. In other words...you don't plan on painting it the correct color again and you don't plan on redoing the interior.

I think we should all be happy that this NSX is fetching such a high price. Sure, we don't want someone to get suckered, but we also have to realize that one day our NSXs will be older, higher miles, more dings, repaint, etc....

I hope they are still in demand when I sell mine(hopefully in about eighty two years :D)

Panel damage and super-high mileage! What a deal!

Every time I see a car with body damage and it appears to be a "bargain" price, I always ask the question, "Why don't they get the body damage fixed themselves, before they sell it?" The answer is quite obvious... it's not worth fixing. And when you take that into consideration, the car can only be considered overpriced, when compared with a similar car without such damage.

Saw my name in the thread and had to post! :) I actually saw a Red/Black 91 in Arizona with 121k mi on it for $19.5, made me think about the whole beater concept. I ended up picking up a flawless black/black just because I'm picky, and the thought of having other peoples mess all over the car didn't cut it. One advatange of the "beater NSX" would be the fact that you would be quite as anal about the car, or that you would be afraid to make modification otherwise off limits to the pristine conditioned cars. But who knows what problems you'd have...

I know a guy who picked up a "beater" 91' NSX with 80k on it for $12,000!!!! The car was never involved in an accident, mechanically sound, and was in decent shape. Just the normal wear and tear of a vehical with that kind of milage. Don't exactly know why the previous owner sold it for so cheap, but the car is still running like a champ with 120k miles on it. Probably the best deal I've ever heard of for an NSX. Wish I got that kind of deal.:( You just can't go wrong for that price.
