Bless you, whoever you are!

Smash driver seeks out hero after river plunge

A drowning driver pulled from the river in Bedford in a dramatic late-night rescue has admitted: "I'm lucky to be alive".

Suneil Jassal, of Bedford, was dragged clear of his sinking sports car by a courageous Good Samaritan after plunging into the Ouse.

Now the 22-year-old, from the London Road area, has appealed for his heroic helper to come forward so he can say a proper thank you.

Mr Jassal said: "He is a lovely bloke and what he did took a lot of courage. I can swim, but I was wearing heavy clothing and without him no way would I be here."

Mr Jassal spoke as crowds gathered near the Swan Hotel to watch his stricken car lifted from the water.

He said he had been heading along the Embankment at around 11.30pm on Friday when he lost control of his high-powered Honda NSX.

Swerving to avoid an oncoming car, his vehicle struck the kerb, crashed backwards through the stone balustrade and plunged into the river.

Mr Jassal said the yellow sports car, which he described as 'the Japanese Ferrari', floated for a few seconds and then began to go down.

He managed to get free of the cockpit but was struggling in the cold waters when his mystery rescuer leapt in to pull him to safety.

Miraculously Mr Jassal was able to walk away without injury and did not even need hospital treatment.

He said: "I want to meet the guy and thank him. I feel like I have been given a second chance and now appreciate life a bit more after death flashed before my eyes."

What the article didn't say, and what witnesses said (on another car forum), is that he was doing at least 80mph down a high street in town, allegedly. I'm not talking big wide US style high streets either! The speed limit would be 30mph there.

nsxparts.com,looks like you beat me to it by 2 seconds!;)

Most accidents happen because of speeding. That chap is in denial. ( I don't knock 'em down, I just set 'em up)

How do you know it's a Targa™.

I was going to add how do you know it's a Targa. Targas are options here, and cost more than coupes. As we don't have any sun, the T-top is not a popular option. We have always had the coupe available.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Many accidents happen because of speeding, but many accidents happen because of alcohol, and many accidents happen because of poor judgment by the driver. And many accidents happen because of a combination of these three causes.

It's not a Targa, because only Porsche has Targas. However, it's probably an NSX-T because Spa Yellow wasn't produced until 1997, by which time most NSXs built were NSX-T rather than fixed-roof coupes.

Really? I would not have guessed that.

Maybe this guy thought he was James Bond in a Lotus.

Got an e-mail from him the other day. I sent a message to their board asking if anyone had seen or knew of my previous black/black NSX with the number plate J111NSX when I lived in the UK and he said he had something like N111NSX but it went into a river...

Glad he is OK.

And what does the T stand for in NSX-T?

It stands for Targa.... Unless your work for Honda, then it just stands for T. If you work for Porche then you know it really stands for targa but you are annoyed that you can't sue honda cause they say it stands for "T". But if you work for Honda you know that even though you can't say it stands for Targa, everyone knows it stands for Targa, and you smile cause you can't be sued for what people know, only what you say. you know?

blurr,

Please don't mind me, I just have this urge to calculate the dominancy of the word "you" in your post.

And the result, 13.79% of your post was composed of "you"s. Rather high, isn't it? Just an observation, that's all.

It must be a late night thing, at least for me anyways. Time for bed.

I wondered too if the car was a "T". However j14nsx is right, Targas are not popular in the U.K.

This thread prompts a question: I have old issues of the English car magazines "Autocar & Motor", May 23, 1994 and "Performance Car", May '94. Both magazines tested what appears to be a '94 spec Spa Yellow coupe. Was Spa Yellow available in other parts of the world years before it became available in the U.S.?

Note, the car tested also had a black roof.

Just wondering...

if it was a coupe woul'dn't have a black top?

I believe most coupe made in 1997 and after have matching tops, for the US at least (and there's not many mad). Take the Zanardi for example.

No. I believe most (of the few) non-Zanardi coupes made in 1997 and after have black roofs. The Zanardi is the exception. But I believe a coupe with body-colored roof could be special-ordered. Except for a black NSX, of course. ;)

...high-powered Honda NSX

Is this a version we cannot get in North America? Sure 270 - 290 hp may be 'high' compared to most cars, but in the realm of supercars it is almost puny.
