Parked behind my friend's Durango...she backed out and now I have a nice 4 inch by 1.5 inch "racer stripe" just below the Acura emblem. She ran the hitch up the nose, I guess it could have been worse...she could have crinkled the hood if the hitch wasn't there....Anybody out there with a Red upper cover in excel condition?

Same story here...

Same thing happened to me while I was stopped at a red light behind a MB SUV. The woman behind the wheel decided she did not want to wait for the red light, and wanted to go around the cars waiting for the light, cut though a parking lot, and get to the Laundrymat ASAP. She put the SUV in reverse and backed up without turning her head. Claimed she didn't see me, I guess red isn't bright enough, I may have to add orange and yellow stripes.

I had to follow her to the laundrymat, only to find out that she doesn't have her paperwork on her, since she only lives three blocks away. Three weeks, two estimates to repaint the front bumper @$325, and eight phone calls latter, I picked up a check. As she handed me the check she told me I was too close to the back of her SUV (bs), and this is her first accident in twenty years of driving.

Then she asked me about a good bodyshop that would replace the cracked piece under her SUV's bumper. Score: NSX 1/SUV 0

The color of body parts has a tendency to change with different amounts of time, different exposure to the elements, etc. Chances are that another owner's upper bumper cover wouldn't match the rest of your car very well.

Get the repair done right. Go to a top-notch body shop and have them get the part and paint it.

Yea, as if she was the victim. It amazes me how people can justify (even the attempt) their wrong actions. If I would have been you, I would have had a few choice words for her... after she handed me that check.

Damn SUVs!

Just an FYI to all of the fellow NSXer's out there...
My buddy Rob was following me in his NSX one day while I was driving my Dodge Ram pickup. When we were stopped at a light and he was behind me, I absolutely COULD NOT see him in any of my mirrors. Thanks to that experience, I always leave plenty of space between me and other vehicles whenever I'm driving my NSX. Protect yourselves out there.

I always try to keep enough distance to the car in front of me before a traffic light or other stop to be able to drive around if need be. Call me paranoid but you never know if you might have to get out quick if possible.

Ken's as usual right on the money. Paint is photochemically reactive and changes color over time.

Tractor trailers can't see your NSX when you are stopped behind them but I assume they are not going to back up in traffic.
That SUV woman is crazy and it is not your job to drive for her. The only time you are stopped too close to the back of another vehicle is if you cannot go around them; the NSX has a poor turning radius so you need to leave some space to go around if the vehicle in front stalls.

ub2slw: Sorry to hear of the accident.

I had a similar incident in a parking lot. I was walking out to my car after work and heard a loud crunch in the distance. I knew that some poor soul got hit. As I got closer I discovered that I was the poor soul. The 3/4 ton pickup parked in front of me just backed up instead of going forward out of his spot. My car was in his blind spot I guess. About $1k damage. Fortunately he took full responsibility and the damage was repaired without too much inconvenience. Also fortunate was that this was the Talon, not the NSX.

Got my car back from the shop today, someone backed into it 22 days ago (and 8 days after I paid to have the car repainted at my own expense) - $3k in damages, and $705 in rental fees (at least they were nice enough to leave a note!)

I always make sure I am about 10 feet behind the person in front of me when waiting at a light. Want to make sure they can see me. It's difficult.

Sorry about your accident.

In my opinion it doesn't matter what size your car is, it has to be the responsibility of the reversing driver to know what is behind them. It always pisses me off when they try to blame the short car because they can't see it. What if my small car was a small child on bicycle? Luckily I haven't been backed into, but I've stopped counting the number of times I've had to take evasive action when someone almost did. In nearly every case, it was a large SUV. There should be a law against building a vehicle that doesn't let you see what's behind you.

Man.. this sucks i can't believe that i'm always relating to these horror stories..... When i first bought my car, i had it parked out in the streets while i went to grab something to eat. I came back and saw a pretty noticeable scrape mark near the emblem. Eventually a SUV or a pick up truck backed into it while reversing or something, just pisses me off how irresponsible these people are. I hope i don't have to relate to all these horror stories no more :(

My car is in for paint right now. It was hit and run while parked at the Health Club in November!!!! I caught the person who hit me because of on VERY nice and helpful witness. He could not get over seeing the Explorer parked on my hood!

Damage to my car - hood/front bumper skin ruined / paint entire front clip.

I will have it back on Monday and post pics of a first class job. It is being painted at Artistic in Beaverton, OR.

Can't wait to get it back!

just a thought, but isnt it against the law to put a car in reverse on a public street in traffic? unless parallel parking? kinda like its against the law to coast in Neutral.......

i dunno, but i think i heard somethin about this before
