NSX snorkel intake for back window?

Hello,

I have a client that is asking for a specific intake to use on his 94 NSX. He has seen the intake used overseas and cannot find it here.
It looks like the scoop and lexan hatch that is available, but he said that the scoop goes down the back window and feeds into the intake instead of just feeding air through the back window.

Does anyone know where I may find this or has anyone seen it before?

Regards
Jim Daley

most implementations of these are IMO more cosmetic than anything else, as the more common airflow route is through intake chambers on the left hand side.

A few exceptions where these can actually help (IMO):

- some have been using these to provide cooling for air-to-air intercoolers that some FI applications use

- even more rare -- running open intake trumpets that can use this airflow -- more common on race-prepped motors or really tricked out street setups (typically with individual throttle bodies, etc) like these two Japanese NSXs.

- others ??

Can they be bought?

Yes, that is exactly what he has been looking for. Thank You. Is it possible for me to buy one of these and how much do they go for?

Thanks

Check at Science of Speed Here for one solution.

Also, alternatively:

Contact Gerry Johnson through www.pansx.com where you can see additional pictures & more details of his set-up.

Note that neither of these solutions ducts air directly to the intake, but it should not be difficult to create a duct for that purpose.

Thank you, but...

I originally showed the hatch and scoop from Science of Speed to my client and he said that is not exactly what he ws looking for. The one he describes is exactly like the on on mynsx.com.
I assume that is not being manufactured?

Thanks

You can check for more pictures & contact info at MYNSX Website
You will see from the pics however the scoop appears to be somewhat cosmetic, with a traditional (albeit non-stock) cone intake filter, with the scoop perhaps flowing some cool air into the engine bay - personally I think cooler air is available from the stock set-up. Also, the stock intake box/filter is quite efficient & surely will outperform a cone in the middle of the hot engine bay. On Gerry's Performance Autoworx NSX it is there to keep the inter-cooler for the turbo cool.
So if your client wants it for appearance sake, that's one thing - I doubt if any gains will be made from trying to duct it to the intake.

What are these? Do they serve any purpose, other than cool looks? I did a search on the forums and browsed through the FAQ, but couldn't find anything.

D'Ecosse is correct. The scoop on MYNSX is is more for looks. He still has the tempered OE glass that cant be modified for better air flow. Still, his car has amazing detail and I can apreciate the level of work that went into it. Dan

Those are open bell-mouth individual air intakes - no filter, maximum air flow, strictly race engine only!
In the other picture, a common practice is to put tennis balls on them to stop objects falling directly into the intake while idle.

Pricing?

I do have a client that is interested in this. Please let me know the pricing information.

Thanks
