Here is an excerpt from EVO about the Honda Integra Type-R.

"Stylist Hideaki Uchino explained that the exterior, penned to appeal more to a US audience (where its called the Acura
RSX), followed the new trends in chunkier shaped sports models coming out of BMW and Audi. 'Hondas up until now have been too "thin". That's why we've beefed up the solidity of the coupe, and given it more muscular and athletic lines.' He was also inspired by a spell at Pininfarina where he fell in love with the lines of the Ferrari 360 Modena, which boasts a higher stance than its sleeker 355 brother. So there you have it. A Type R inspired by the 360 Modena! "

Looking at the previous generation Integras its easy to see that they have a "thin" look. (i.e. not enough side sheet metal) The NSX is a perfect example when comparing its style to the chunkier Ferrari 360. That seems to be changing with a lot of Japanese designs. (I have the admit though the last generation 300zx was pretty chunky (bloated?) to start with. Maybe they had something there...)

I wouldn't be surprised to see the next generation NSX looking pretty chunky as well. All new cars seem to be following the chunky look. (The DN-X has the chunky look and new TSX and 04 TL prototypes have the chunky look).

I think the DNX prototype and 04 TL designs are some of the smoothest yet, especially if the new TL is produced without side mirrors or wipers.
