OK this may sound RIDICULOUS to a lot of you more reasonable guys out there, but a fellow NSX'er recently confided that his NSX payment was higher than his rent, and so is mine. Sounds like a great poll!!

Your car is costing more. Well I would think rent would be high in Cali. I have a friend who lives in the bay area and payed $630,000 for his home and it's not what I would call a $630,000 house.

How much is your car costing?

My car is a straight $G a month, my rent is $800 and I can see the ocean from my front balcony and I can walk across PCH and jump in with a board. I am about to start figuring out how to buy a condo or starter-kit house here pretty soon, it's time to own from what everyone says.

For me, cars are higher, but it's not really fair because our family owns the house (two family) and it's a pretty reduced rent that's just going back into the family pot...

Normally, in NYC, you'd have to be at F360 level for your car to be more than rent! :D

Small condos in the boroughs are going for ~$275,000 w/$1000/month maintenance, so you can IMAGINE what they're renting for. Two bedroom in Brooklyn will set you back $2000/month easily. If it wasnt for the fact that our family owns the house, we'd be looooong gone. I'd LOVE to live in a state where the NSX payment could legitimately be higher than the rent!

Oh! and the 98 NSX was costing me a grand, but the 03 lease is costing me $850 with tax (plus the money I was upside down in getting out of the 98 :( )

I neglected to inform you of the part about the roomate . . he pays half, $800 was a round-off, its $1675\month for 2 bed\2 bath\2 balcony\2 car garage. Tack on $100 for digital cable w\internet and another $150 to keep the lights on and the water hot. However, he is moving soon so I may have the "empty half" available long before I figure out how to buy a place.

My nsx costs about $125 month interest on my home equity loan and I may never pay it off just like my 30 year mortgage. Anyways my home is going up in value much faster then my NSX is going down in value so in a few years it really will not matter.

NSX $439/month
Rent $450/month

With insurance, the car is more! Of course, with utilities the rent is more!

Man, I need to move to the south!

My Rent: $1144(ouch)
NSX: $0

I should live in my nsx...

it's time to own from what everyone says. [/B]

Actually, it was time to own about 5 years ago. But it's never too late, it's always time to own.

Personally, the minute I saved enough for a down payment I bought a house....about 16 years ago, when I was 24. I didn't get my first toy, a Lotus Esprit Turbo, for another 10 years...on my 34th birthday, when I was able to pay cash for it.

Car Payment $0.00

A year of fun on the track and street with fellow enthusiasts ~$500.00

Peace of mind in owning a beautiful home in sunny So Cal for my family to live safely and comfortably......Priceless!

My NSX payments cost more than my rent... by a buck!

All in all, I keep my rent/car payments under a grand per month.
Yes, I'm very lucky.

I could be saving SO much money if I didn't have the X.
Oh well.

Mortgage $2200 per month (with no tax breaks on interest in Canada) and S2000 lease payment $700 per month.

If I were to get a new NSX, payment would be about $1600 per month with about $10k down....

Man, I want to move to the US with the cheap living and car payments you guys have.

OMG! What's the exchange rate US to Canadian?

Me too! :D

The NYC Metro area is so out of sync with the rest of the country I dont really consider it the US anymore.

In the NYC area it's more like nice car OR house, rather than nice car AND house unless you're very rich. Typical starter house in these parts is easily half a mil (and you don't get much).

The other great thing about NYC is I know at least a dozen people who LOST money big time on real estate thanks to coops and "failed experiment" condos. And since coops and condos are the only thing remotely affordable, it's what most folks buy around here.

NSX = $0

Mortgage: $1,538 primary home (done in 10 years)
$1,191 rental property (20 more years - rental income
offsets carstuff - mods, track days, maintenance)

Well, it's nice to hear that SOME folks around here have enough financial smarts to build up some net worth and put some equity into buying a home before they go out and buy an expensive sports car...

NSX = 0; and the my house payment equals the NSX payment, but my house isn't all that grand of a place. Of course, I was smart in that I bought my NSX a few years before I bought my house :)

NSX=0
Primary home $2500
Rental home $3300 (negative flow of ~ $800/mo)- negative flow takes away my spending money for toys : (

House $1800. NSX $434.

Can't wait to get this dang car paid off. Only a few more months.
