Window molding NSX de-valuation

Guys,

You know I am selling my NSX and I had a serious buyer that backed out because the window molding is coming up a bit on the sides and the windshield is not original. The car has not been wrecked but I am not sure why the windshield was replaced. He claims that not having the original windshield seriously de values the car. Have you all heard of this theory before?? IMO, certainly not a reason to turn away a fair priced original NSX is it??

Interesting question.

OEM Windshield = lighter weight, less durable
A/M windsheild = heavier, non OEM stigma, more durable!!

It's a $700 item if I recall, but you would not sell it without a windsheild, right!! My point is I do not think the car is worth $700 less.

IMO, it is minor. If I had the windshield fixed on a car I owned, I would put an OEM, just my preference:).

One persons opinion,

Larry,

No, I would not sell irt w/out a windshield. He claims the car is not valued as high if the original wshield is not in the car. Also, he claims that the molding, even a new molding will never seal as tight as from the factory. Is that true??

LOL! What a rediculous statement! My '91 has "OEM" molding and it SUCKS (major shrinkage)! Of course, this was one of the changes made to the NSX, but I just ordered my replacement strip for the fabulous OEM that your buyer is walking away from. Tell him that he can have my windshieldand molding, I'll take yours, and we'll both be happy.:D

The idiot who owned my car prior to purchase left it in the FL sun most of the day, every day. WITH the top down. The sun damage was a little overwhelming when I bought the car.:(

IMHO, if your new windshield and molding were installed properly it does not devalue the car at all. I rather have a new windshield than an original that was cracked or pitted anyway. I think this buyer is just a little too anal and will never be able to enjoy any car as much as he could. Even if he finds a perfect example, the minute he takes it out for a drive and gets a rock chip he will be so worked up about it that he would never be able to enjoy his damaged car again. Again, this in just my opnion because I just had the original top shrinking molding replaced on my 92 and it looks good to me. Much better than the shrinking one. I have no leaks either so I'm not worried about the seal. My original windshield will also need to be replaced soon because there are a lot of pin hole rock chips in it. The car doesn't have extra high miles but I do drive it a lot and you just can't help not getting any chips unless you drive when no other cars are on the road. I'm sure you'll find another buyer who will enjoy your NSX.:)

I consider the type of windshield (OEM vs aftermarket) to have absolutely no effect on the value of the car, unless there is substantial distortion visible in it, which would be fairly unlikely.

The windshield molding problem is common and can be repaired for under $200, and shouldn't affect market value by more than that amount.

No, it's not a legitimate reason to turn down an NSX, in my O. (But some people will try anything to get the seller to lower his price, regardless of whether or not their arguments make any sense.)

Hey guy's. I think is a bit weird. What would of happen if the car has lowering springs, And after market super charger air filter etc, etc ,etc, Its ALL AFTER MARKET. And we still buy it. Big deal, so it had a non oem windshield. I use to work in the atuobody trade, and our insuriance makes you get after market first, and if they dont have any they look for used then oem. ( Only in an acciendent situation ) Well that's just my oppion.

No, many buyers will NOT buy a car with significant aftermarket mods such as you describe. Others will prefer them. But those are significant differences.

I don't think an aftermarket windshield is the same thing at all; it doesn't affect performance or comfort or anything else significant (assuming there's no visual distortion). It's so insignificant, it's like deciding not to buy an NSX because it uses a name-brand aftermarket oil filter instead of a Honda one.

True enough. You are right. Allot of people only do want stock. But What I was trying to say is there is usually something after market. The shift knob, window tint etc. But yes there are paole out there that only want stock. I will agree.
