Very cool upgrade I just did to my NSX

I just did a very cool little upgrade and it cost me just less than a hundred dollars. One thing I have always disliked about the NSX is the windshield wipers. I think they really take away from the look of the car.
Since I live in Florida I am not willing to remove the wipers completely and rely solely on rain-x. So about a week ago I took my car to a friend of mine who owns a machine shop and we came up with a modified (single) stealth windshield wiper blade. It is completely hidden when it’s not running, and when it is on it covers the entire drivers side windshield with no problems. It also has a very cool look while it is in motion. It has rained every day for the past week and so far I have not found any problems with this setup. Here are some pics I just took but I also have a 60 second jpeg film of the wiper in motion.
If someone could tell me how to link it to this thread I will upload it (the move file size is 17MB and it is in QuickTime movie format

That IS cool. I bet there are more than a few people on this forum that would be interested in buying one for their own.

Looks good.

I've removed mine, and keep the driver's side wiper in the trunk, and a 17 mm socket in the glove compartment. But I don't drive my car every day, and if I did, repeatedly putting it on and taking it off would probably get old pretty quickly.

Good job!

Whoa now,

This is very interesting. It makes the front windshield look much larger. I like this.

Perhaps we could have a bit more information on how we might get this done on our own machine?

Thank you.

That looks awesome... I'm sure a lot of forum folks would be interested if your friend is willing to produce them...

Me three!!:D

I have noticed that the european wiper-arm is different from the US one.
The european arm has a electrical device (left arm only) in the lower half, hence the big part, which i assume is a heater element.

Just FYI...

that looks great. can you take a picture with the wiper in the middle of its stroke? (middle of the windshield) so we can see the coverage?

great job!

This appears to be the stock driver's side wiper with the spoiler removed, then mounted one or two splines counterclockwise on its shaft. Is that what you've done?

Here are a few more pics. I contacted the guy that owns the machine shop and here are the details. The cost is 75.00 to do the mod. If you are local to Tampa you can contact him directly. Jerry Troya www.troyaengineering.com (813) 248-2008 If you drop your car off in the morning you should be able to pick it up that same day. I spoke to him and the one challenge that he has is the wipers have to a perfect fit, so they will not rub against the hood or the rubber seal at the top. For that he needs to have your car there so he can test the fit of the wipers. Another option is if we could get someone to donate a set of wipers that he could keep at his shop then he could match up each set he makes against his master set. For those of you who live out of town you can send me both your wipers and $100.00 and I will send you back one stealth wiper The cost breakdown is 75.00 for the machine shop and 25.00 to cover my shipping cost and the hassle of me having to taking my car up to his shop for test fitting.

One other thing to consider is that part of the process requires heating and bending the arm of the wiper so after this is done if you want your arm to look perfect you will have to lightly sand and repaint the arm or have it powder coated. It think the approx cost for powder coating is $25.

If you want to get in touch with me my direct email address is [email protected] or you can PM
