Mixing gas of different octane rating...

The recommanded gas for my Accord is 89 but I usually fill up my car with about 2/3 87 and 1/3 93. Is this bad? Would the gas not "mix" evenly?

Why would you even bother with putting 89 octane mid-grade into your accord? Isn't it designed for 87 octane? If I'm not mistaken I think it is, so unless you've modified it in some way to now need the extra octane, you are just wasting your money. Some people think that putting higher octane fuel in a car designed for regular will give them more power. This is not the case. The only way to reap any benefit with the higher octane fuel is to bump the timing up a bit. Then you'll get a couple miles per gallon more and a little more horsepower. This procedure was outlined by Oscar Jackson (honda guru) on a plain jane civic in a recent magazine article.

I put 89 (or a mixture that results in 89) in because I was told it was recommanded but I had never checked my manual on that.
