I am a owner of NSX(NA1,right handle wheel)in Japan.
I am going to U.K. (LONDON)in this summer with my NSX.
So,I heared that automobile is needed rear fog.
Do you have a rear fog ?
If you have it,please tell me parts No.
I want to get a rear fog,if possible before leaving japan.

Thanks

Yes you will need a rear fog light. You may also need different headlights, and the speedo changed to miles an hour.

This is what's done to Japanese cars when they are imported.

If you want a proper fog light for your car then you will need to change the rear lights, as the fog light is built in there. Do you have two reversing lights at the moment? We have one reverse and one fog light.

The bad news is that our rear lights are lighter in colour than the Japanese ones. So I guess that if you change the left side light, it will be a different colour to the right side.

Japanese cars I see here have a separate fog light attached undereneath the rear bumper. Doesn't look as good but cheaper.

You could wait until you get here, and get some rear lights from a salvage yard.

I'll get part numbers later, if I can.

Doesn't the law state that if you have a foglight, it needs to be functioning correctly, but if you don't have one at all, then it's oke?

DutchBlackNSX, I think you are right. I have an American and a Canadian NSX both without a foglight. It is permitted, because the cars are originally not equiped with one.

Yes it's true that if there is a fog light it has to work. But after a certain year, all cars in the UK have fog lights, so imports need to be fitted with one.

EU rules are strange. So we have fog lights because the government thinks they're safe. However our minimum tread depth for tyres is 1.6mm, in Switzerland is something like 3mm isn't it? There are people that even import 2nd hand tyres from CH for sale here!!

Hello akaNSX, I am Japanese and live here in the UK (London), I have a business that import cars from Japan to the UK. So I guess I can help you here.

You can get the conversion done in the UK after importing, so there is no point in buying the parts now.

Will you be importing as a personal import (no import duty/tax)? Or commercial (you have to pay duty/tax)?

To qualify for personal import, you had to have lived in Japan for the past 12 months, and owned your NSX for the past 6 months. Otherwise you will have to pay duty. That is 10% of (CAR COST + SHIPPING) and then 17.5% on top of that. (Approx 30% of CAR COST + SHIPPING)

Shipping probably cost around 100,000 Yen.

Amount of modification required depends on what year your car is. If your car is going to be more than 10 years old, then you only need to pass the MOT here (equiv to Japanese Shaken). For MOT, you will only need to add rear fog light. This can be done by changing to UK style fog lights (it has to be from rhd drive country, so get the parts from here), or stick an after market one at the back. Or you could just colour one of your reverse light with red vinyl.

If the car is less than 10 years old then you will need to do the SVA test. Which will require you to change the speedo to read in mph and change the fuel restrictor. The parts for these are available in this country.

If you are coming here with the NSX and taking the car back with you within 1 year (was it 6 months) then the procedure is different, so let me know.

If you didn't understand any of that, email me in Japanese. ([email protected])
