Sent the seller this message:

>I hear that this car has some panels that have been repainted. Could you
>tell me what has been repainted and why.
>
>Thanks

The response I got was;

Not sure who's got that information but I was told that the car was painted
on the drivers door because of a key scratch. The paint was done by the
acura dealership and matches so you can not tell anything. You can get more
specific information on the vehicle from John Royal 804-833-6009 or
804-937-9393 he also has access to a couple others with NO paintwork he can
tell you about them. ALWAYS WORKING FOR YOU THE CONSUMER TO FIND ANY VEHICLE
YOU SPECIFY AT THE LOWEST PRICE.

Thanks for bidding,

As mention above, click on a picture and see what you get. I guess they are right, the paintwork is awful. The blue paint job has faded so much it looks like a white SUV. Maybe it is just shading from the sun.:D

not again :(

" Warning it's back again...."

Come on, guys, we're taking ourselves MUCH too seriously !!

First, let me say 2 things :

1. I bought this car - at a very reasonable price
2. I'm going to have one say on this, and leave it at that. My intention is not to blow this thing up any more ( altho' I realise that possibility !), but to try to get some modicum of reasonableness ( is there such a word...?) into this .

Sure , this car had some damage that was repaired. Not a great repair job, but I've sure seen worse in my time. How many of you posting on this thread ACTUALLY SAW the car personally ?

And of those few who did, how many took the time to try to find out what happened to the car ??

For those of you who can't answer positively to these points, perhaps I can enlighten you. The car was scraped along the passenger side ( rear 1/4 and door ), and required work. This was when the second ( I'm the third ) owner had the car.

How many cars go through their life without any damage ? How many of our cars are damaged through no fault of our's ? So, what do we do then ? Sell them ? Throw our arms up in horror ? No,we get them fixed RIGHT. This car had NO misaligend panels. It had NO "serious" body daamge ( by any reasonable definition of the term ). 2 different Acura dealers have inspected the car and called it "very nice " and a " really nice car " - with virtually no defects ( wiper blades..??!!)

For everyone's info, within less than a week of owning this car, I have :
* Had the 2 panels in question stripped.Properly repaired. Repainted PERFECTLY. New rubber seams.
* Had all old traces of overspray cleaned up
* Had 2 wheels, with minimal scuffs, repaired so that you could never tell.
* Had a few other minor clean up items taken care of ( incl Targa seal )

ALL for a TOTAL cost of just over a $1200 and a bit of time and TLC. For the total amount I now have in this car, I would match it against any normally " used" one of similar age, and I can almost guarantee that not one of those would be sold for what I have in mine + $5K.

Why am I saying all this ? 2 ( I believe ) important reasons :

1. This forum is a very significant and powerful one in the NSX community. I think it is ( 99 % )great . BUT, we have an obligation to use it responsibly and judiciously. Slaying a car, without heed or consideration, because it has been involved in a minor accident and been poorly repaired, does not fit my bill of responsible involvement. Warning others about a junker like the silver ( which VIN # this week ) '91 that has been on e-bay recently certainly is.

2. Comments such as those that were written about this car can have a LONG TERM very detrimental effect on the value of one of these cars. In this case, that is entirely unwarranted and once again, in my humble opinion, irresponsible.

Sure, there were some total pukes as salesmen involved in trying to sell this car. I dealt with one. He didn't even know the meaning of the word integrity. Slay them to your heart's content - they deserve it, and everyone should be warned about them. But, don't take out the frustration of the sales process on a car ( and all its future owners ) when with not much time and effort that car could be all you were looking for. If you want a car with NO damage at all - cool. Some of us are a little more pragmatic: as long as it's fixed right ( I mean RIGHT ), it's OK by me. Let's not let our enjoyment of these great cars become an elitist, snobby cause to destroy everything that we don't see as " perfect "

For those of you who think I've gone on too long - aoplogies. For those of you who think I've overreacted - please go back and read ( really read ) ALL the threads about this car. Carefully. What did you learn ? It had some minor damage not really well repaired - right ?? THAT'S IT !! And maybe some curb rash on a couple of wheels ( heck my wife does that once a month !) And we're then posting threads headed with big, bold " WARNING "...and in almost so many words ..." stay away from this car..." C'mon !! I've got a really nice '99 Targa, blue/tan with 35K miles, that 2 well respected Acura dealers have called a very good car, for well under $50k all in. How many of you can say that ???

Roger

You may want to take a closer look at your car. The pictures I saw showed bondo and poor paint on the driver's side front fender as well.

I said I wasn't going to say anymore, but I'll answer this. There was some bondo on the rear fender. Ver small amount. None now. There is none any where else.

Again, tho' I'll make the same point. " WARNING "..." Stay away from this car ". What on earth would people be saying if it had been totalled and repaired....??!!

The issue is not so much that the car was damaged and repaired, rather that the car and it's damage/repair history were reportedly being grossly misrepresented by the seller. This is what gets people worked up and "warning" others about a vehicle. One specific example would be the time it was listed as having "no paint work."

Your point about not projecting anger at a dealer onto the car they are selling is a good one though. But it can be an emotional subject for many people when they are looking to buy a car and run into this type of situation.

I'm glad to hear you have brought the car back to what it should be and feel you got a good deal on it. Enjoy!

Hey Lud

First time we have conversed. Your reputation preceeds you - very positively.

You are absolutely right, and that was my whole point. The issue is with an absolute scum bag dealer ( no argument from me there...and believe me, you don't know the half of it. I can't believe some of the stuff he pulled - or tried to - with me ). But, the warning should be about him ( them ) in conjunction with this sale...and any other....not about THIS CAR.

This is a very powerful forum in the " NSX world ". I think people loose sight of this sometimes, and the effect a post ( or a series of them ) can have. If I wanted to sell this car right now, for example, and someone read this thread, they'd probably run a mile....! If you could see the car now, you'd know how little sense that makes !

Keep up the good work.

Roger

So....following the theme of your earlier comments, would you please share with me exactly HOW much of a scumbag this dealer was, please?

Hey Mason

Give me a call if you like. I'm probably better not putting it in writing. But, I've been in and around cars all my life ( I work in the motor racing biz ) and this guy takes the cake. The quintissential used car sleeze ball.

B # is 813-925-1200. I'm out all afternoon. Dentist Mon am ( always fun ! ). Other than that, you can generally get me !!
