It looks like a normal nsx cat eh? This picture was taken with a flash.

Now, same cat with no flash. I didn't know cats can be THIS hot! There's probably something wrong with either the cat or my car is running WAY too rich or something.

You need a new cat and 02 sensor from the looks of it.
Its normal for your car to run lean or rich when they get pluged up. You must of had real bad gas mileage. Was it hesitating at all?
I would look for a used set the new ones cost about 800 bucks I think.

Little bit out of your topic, did you guys drove by Tai Mei Tuk yesterday? Because my friend told me he saw about 20 NSX pass by and 2 of NSX are 2002 version (blue and orange).

if that picture was taken after a really long drive then you shouldn't worry too much.

some turbo cars' exhaust manifold would look like that after a few hard runs.

I had that happened to me one time; turn out that two coil-plugs were bad (one dead, the other barely working,) so the motor is not consuming enough fuel given that it is only running on 41/2 cylinders. When that happens, your exhaust manifold will get hot.

prova4re: bad mileage? I don't know yet. Hesitation? not really, but doesn't seem to have much power and the engine seems to be vibrating a bit. Also, exhaust is sputtering.

EK4: yes, that was us at Luk Gang

tararan: this is definitely not normal for the nsx.

NSXSAN: some guy told me the exact same story this morning. Maybe my coils are the problem. I'll be bringing the car in tomorrow and have a lookie. I'll keep you all posted.

Good God!!!

NsxSan was right! One of my cylinder was dead due to a rusted sparkplug. Simple 15 mins fix. Car is back to normal now.

Moral of the story: be careful when you wash the engine and not get any water into the coils.

Henry.
