from another NSXPrime thread:

this just in from some contacts in Japan

originally from S2KCA forums:

Honda announced that they will close the Takanezawa Factory and move the all facility to Suzuka Factory on next summer!

I was so surprised to hear that and really disappointed.

As for me, Takanezawa was a symbol of ‘Honda spirits’ . Takanezawa Factory was fulfilled of craftsmanship so that they could assemble NSX, Insight and S2000.

Wonder what this means for future NSX (and S2K/Insight) production.

I just confirmed this with my contacts at the NSX Club of Japan, who had graciously hosted us at NSX Fiesta.

The NSX line is moving to the Suzuka facility... in some respects this is a good thing for enthusiasts. Closer access to the NSX Fiesta event (to be permanently held in Suzuka), amongst other things... a key F1 and JGTC circuit for Honda.

In addition to what seems like a "facility consolidation" move -- presumably for economic and efficiency reasons, I wonder what this means for future (next-gen) NSX design. Will notions of "design for manufacture-ability" bring about a less hand-made, more "volume-scale-able" design (less exotic, easier to work on materials, etc) ?? Are more shared components (badge engineering ala Audi/VW/Lambo) to be utilized?

This was previously reported a month and a half ago, here and here.
Oops...

Any news on product design implications related to this move?
In addition to facility consolidation, are they doing anything relative to design, use of advanced materials, shared components (a radio upgrade?).

Good news indeed.
