Ok... thanks for taking time to read this post... I need serious hep!

Im seriously considering a 95 NSX-T Red/Tan, 40k mi, and is straight! No dings, dents, nothing... all physical inspection was perfect with exception of possible front brake job needed. Carfax was clean with 2 owners.

However, this vehicle has some mod's that i'm not too familiar with when it comes to how much it increases the value.

Mods: Comptech
  • Headers
  • Exhaust
  • Suspension
  • Supercharger Kit
    [/list=a]
Seller agreed $41.5k My questions are these...
    • How much are these mod's valued at for this vehicle?
How much will a complete brake job (front and rear) cost me at an Acura dealer?
Could I turn around and sell this car for what I pay for it if needed? (not that i ever would)
I'm not too big on these mod's and don't really have a need for them. But if this price is good for this car then I will buy tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If there no other problems with the car, I think you should buy it. 95 without any mod go for high 30K to mid 40K. If you decided not to buy this car let me know where this car is located. I may buy it and sell mine.

Sounds pretty good.

...all physical inspection was perfect...
Who inspected it? You? Do you know an NSX well?

All the mods listed are Comptech?

How much are these mod's valued at for this vehicle?
The question is, what are they worth to you. You can easily find out what it would cost to buy them new (alot), but a seller rarely, if ever, gets anywhere near what the replacement cost is.

Define a "complete" brake job. If you can turn a wrench, you can do yourself in a few hours with no problem.
Could I turn around and sell this car for what I pay for it if needed?
Would you rather me buy it and flip it. :D

If it's as you say, sounds good. With that said, I would have a forum member near you check it out. Oh, and if you have not done so, make sure to read this .

Thanks for feedback... I inspected it myself today and did use the checklist. I've been researching NSX's for over 2 years but never got into the mod's.

Regarding the brakes...i could easily do it myself but really dont have time. No worries on this... ill just get a quote from Acura. No biggie.

All the mod's are Comptech... I've seen the new/retail pricing which adds up to around $14k. But I imagine they depreciate in value over the years as do the rest of the vehicle. I was just trying to figure out how he booked the retail value with mods at $48.5k. I booked it at about $45k w/o the mods. That means the mod's depreciated $11k in just the few years they've been installed. Again no biggie with me. But i pressed him for $38k and they declined due to the "extra's" being installed.

Regardless, the X is absolutely tight! So I will sleep on it and post my decision later. If i decline, I will definately pass the info on to another enthusiast.

The NSX is a gorgeous and an awesome machine in so many ways.

Most owners have an exaggerated opinion of the value of their car with mods. A modded car can be more difficult to sell because fewer buyers want it, and as a result, the mods may be heavily depreciated. It's even possible that a modded car is worth less than a similar car bone stock, because of the difficulty in selling, which means that the mods are worth zero. If the owner expects a sizable percentage of his original investment back in market value, he is probably going to be disappointed (or unable to sell the car at his desired price).

I am not expressing an opinion about this particular car though.

... or keep all the original parts and remove them / sell them before selling your car. It is not uncommon to see people get 50% or more for well cared for and desireable mods on this forum. So a good question for the owner is "do you have all the original parts to return the car to stock?".

Do a search and PM people who recently sold these mods for final sell price and you will get a gauge of the true market value of these mods minus any labor to remove and put the stock ones back on the car.

Headers, exhaust and Comptech supercharger commonly add up to 50% of parts cost to the sale price of an NSX assuming everything is in good condition. Of course they are only worth something to someone who wants those mods, but all three of those are quite popular and I know several people who have priced and sold NSXs that way with those mods. A used Comptech supercharger in good condition easily brings over $5000 by itself.

KGP sums it up - what are the mods worth to you? If this car is really clean and those are mods you want, it sounds like a very good deal and I think you'd be very hard pressed to beat it.

Obviously, if the mods on a car (again, ANY car, not necessarily this specific one) are ones that you want anyway, you can save a lot of money by buying a car that is already modded (in which the owner is willing to take a "depreciation hit" on his "investment", and I don't think either term is quite accurate). Note too that if everyone wanted such mods, they would sell for close to their original cost. The fact remains, they don't.

I rarely disagree with Lud about anything, but I respectfully disagree about the value of the Comptech (or anyone else's) exhaust and headers adding as much as 50 percent of their cost to the market value of the car, but it would be hard to prove either way, since they are relatively lower-cost mods...

One more point - how long has the supercharger been on the car? How well was it setup? How hard was the car driven?

This is not a comment on any brand of supercharger it is just that you may want to get a leak down test on the compression of the engine just to be 100% sure the motor is tight before you invest your money.

YMMV

Fore sure! If you really get serious on this car, by all means take Nick's advice. A leak-down test will cost you a few hundered dollars, and will reveal anything major to the engine where the SC might have caused a problem. You DON"T want to buy this car and have to re-build the engine, trust me.

Make sure you get a leak-down, not just a simple compression test. You might have to hunt a bit, but that is what you want. Start by talking to any NSX Master Tech in your, or the car's area.

Can't seem to get installation info on the CTSC like who, when, etc. So I will pass on this car.... i'm just not into all the mod's.

If anyone is interested its located in Hollywood, CA at By Design Auto

Excellent car. Expect sales price between $41-$44k.
