How much money have you spent on modding your NSX?

Just curious, how much money have you spent on modding your NSX??? I don't have an NSX, but I have spent approximately $30K on top of my 2000 C5. It reallly is one sick addiction with no cure. :(

Define "mod".

If there is a part that normally wears out - say brake pads or rotors or shocks, for example - and I decide to replace it with an aftermarket part instead of a stock one - then is that a mod, or not? And if I put track tires onto the car when I go to the track, and put stock tires on the rest of the time, is that a mod, or not?

Since I'm now on my 20th set of front brake pads, my 11th set of front rotors, and my 8th set of rear brake pads, your definition of "mods" will affect my answer substantially.

I spent approx. $50 on a K&N filter, and even that I might replace back to a stock filter. I think my NSX is perfect as it came from the factory, with the exception of some simple late model upgrades (wheels). Besides, I have a Cuda for satisfying power-boosted aspirations... :D

But I know that there are many people out there who have spent many thousands on their NSX's.

X-TNSIV, I imagine you have quite a tally of performance upgrades built up... :D

I did this with my last car. I spent over $5k in modding my MR2 Spyder, so I promised myself I will leave the NSX entirely stock. Let's see if I can resist the temptation. :D

So far $250 on black mats to replace the stock yellow.

Next week that figure will jump to about $16k for the CTSC, ice box, headers, and exhaust and a Dali swap bar.

That's what I said when I bought mine two years ago...To this date I'm around 8 grand in modifications.

About $2,500 and the car does look much better with the new parts.

I don't have a running total in terms of cost, so here is the list.

Rebuilt engine with 9.5:1 forged JE pistons and Comptech forged oil pump gears

Muffler - started with RM then Comptech currently DC

Comptech headers and cat test pipes

Two sets of Tecnomagnesio wheels - 17/18 for the street and 17/17 for the track

Brembo 13" brakes at all four corners

Comptech anti-sway bars

Bilstein shocks

Dali harness bar and Sabelt belts

Japanese short gears and 4.55:1 R&P

Used to have Comptech supercharger but now the Basch Boost

If you don't count any of those "consumables" as mods, then my answer is in three figures, for my HID headlights plus the K&N cone air filter that I installed and then reverted back to stock.

well over $20K

well over $20K in parts, but not as much as some...

- RM headers / CT airbox / Taitec exhaust -- approx $3-4K parts + labor
- Honda JDM short gears + 4.23 R&P/ RM clutch -- approx $3-4K parts + labor
- Wings West / Comptech aero -- mostly parts + $$$ labor/paint
- AP Racing BBK + 17/18 wheels -- approx $5K parts + labor
- CT-Eibach springs / Koni shocks / Dali sways -- approx $2K parts + labor
- GM CF engine cover, side intakes -- approx $1.5K parts
- HID -- approx $1K parts
- interior dress/safety -- approx $1.5K parts
- engine dress (ss hoses, lines, NSX-S badging, etc) -- approx $500 parts

Add: stuff I tried and changed/upgraded
- 2 exhausts: RS*R and RM-B&B Triflo
- 1 set 17/18 wheels: Antera 109 (3 spoke)
- 1 set 17/17 wheels: Forgeline RS (5 spoke)

Then you get into consumables: pads, rotors, tires, fluids, etc -- don't really count these as "mods" per se, particularly if going aftermarket means saving $$ compared to OE in some cases.

edit: included supplier/brand info, etc for above parts "mods"

You're right, it's a disease all right. There is no cure for your present case. Further infections may be prevented by leasing next time. Even then, some patients have been caught modifying leased vehicles at night and stockpiling oem parts in their garages.

NSX manuals - $100
keyless entry -$183
90k tune -up, belts and water pump replacement best mod ever - $1700 with one year warranty or 12,000miles

I told my self I would stop when I doubled the price that I payed for it. :D

One year and 15,000 later I am about half way there, and I still havent touched the engine.

Ken, which type did you installed, just the normal american-market K&N or the Gruppe M?? Why would you want to go back to stock, I always wondering how much diff that K&N Cone filter will make..( I love mine in my other cars...)

sorry, I'm too lazy to do the search... (because I'm at work.?!)

I guess nsxasty is out of touch with the younger generation's lingo. Lud can we create a forum for senior NSX owners? That why we won't waste forum space spelling out terminology for those that don't get it.

I will re-state this is very simple idea, which needs to be clarified in order to answer the question being asked.

Some people consider aftermarket brake pads a mod; others don't.

Some people consider aftermarket rotors a mod; others don't.

Some people consider aftermarket tires a mod; others don't.

Some people consider aftermarket shocks a mod; others don't.

This seems to be something that needs to be spelled out for certain members of our "younger generation", who apparently don't "get it" and seem to be more intent on tossing insults around than on listening to others and exchanging ideas.

Perhaps one of the best suggestions in quite a while. Obviously, this needs to be dealt with. Myself and nsxlover posted a reply within this thread to nsxtasy, in order to "correct" his viewpoint on this matter; however, those posts have been since deleted as of this morning.

Man some people have very thin skin, because the two threads weren't invasive.

I had installed the K&N cone filter, which I assume is the "normal American market K&N". I removed it for two reasons. First, it gave no perceptible power benefit, other than a bit more of a whoosh sound. Second, and more important, the most knowledgeable NSX expert in the country said that his company had seen more engine failures caused by aftermarket air filters than by any other aftermarket mod, apparently because they allow larger/more dirt particles into the engine than stock (despite any marketing claims to the contrary).
