Hello
We just finished the 02 headlight conversion on my 97 NSX. Everything was working perfectly yesterday but now today the lights only work on hi-beam. Is there anyone out there who has done a conversion and run into any difficulties. I was wondering if maybe the relays had to be replaced becasue they can not handle the current of the new headlights.
Also when the headlights were working yesteday they would come on at about 50-75 % for a second or two then they would flicker slightly and goto 100% brightness. Is that normal? maybe someone out there who has a 02 or newer can tell me if that is the way xeon's work .

Thanks in advance for any help or advice

ya sounds like normal HID start up action. They flash on real bright for a split second when the electrical arc is first made then they dim since the gasses are cold. As the gasses quickly heat up the light become bright again. Did you check the fuse? That usually tends to blow if you install HIDs in place of regular lights. The igniter draws quite a lot of current to first light the bulb. Has to create something like 30,000 volts.

looks good. what front is that? looks like the Cwestin rx7 front.

Who cares if they work??? Looks incredible!!!
Wasn't a fan of the new-style lights originally but this looks really nice - congratulations. Vinny has done a fabulous job.

Looks very nice and I can appreciate the work you did. I have the same hood and I gather you added the frp to the corner and trimmed the rest. Is that the 2002 bumper cover? Can you break down the cost of parts only. and I told myself just yesterday, NO MORE MODS. Thanks, Dan

Looks really good! Is that an '02 hood or a modified older one?

Are you using the standalone HID controller?

Well here are the finished pics of the exterior Mods. I am still having the headlight problem. If anyone has any input on that topic it would be much apreciated. The car is at the stereo shop now getting some stuff done to it. I asked them to check out the lights hopefully they can tell me something. If anyone wants more info or more detailed pics let me know.

Oh my god........That looks so incredible, so well done. Race car look without the rice, it seems to be so hard to pull that look off lately and you did it brilliantly:):):):)

Looks like you just made me spend a lot of money!!!

Haha.. I don't blame you, John!! Now we both need to buy our wives nice presents in order to get their approval ;) :D :D

hehehehe.....you are definitely right. Especially with Asian wives:D:D:D:D

HID will require 15amp + on fuse for each light.

that looks hot mate!

Looks totally awesome! Great job with the car and I hope you get your headlight problem fixed.

Here is a breakdown of the costs involved

Right front Headlight 913.91
Left Front Headlight 915.71
Transformers 341.65 X 2 Left and Right
Bulbs 169.00 X 2 Left and Right
Bumper 1295.00
Hood 795.00
Cost for shop to modify hood and bumper to fit new headlights,
paint and install. Approx 1000.00 (not sure on exact cost since I was having allot of stuff done at the same time and I paid one price for everything)

As for the comparison between my car and Enrique's, your right I loved the look of his car and I used it as a model of what I wanted mine to look like. The only difference is I used the JGTC GT500 Louvered Hood and got HRE wheels instead of Blitz.

Just as a side note the fit and finish of the hood and bumper was really bad. It took allot of extra work to get the parts to line up and edges to match. In fact the hood is still not 100% perfect but we ran out of time so I will have to work on it after NSXPO.
The guy who owns the body shop bought a TAITEC front bumper for his NSX and said it was basically a bolt on application.
So things to remember
1. If you buy Marga Hills/ JGTC be prepared to pay your body shop extra money just to get it to fit correctly.
2. Say goodbye to your spare tire because it will not fit under the new hood.

so your telling me the whole thing cost around $4k something??

wow i want a conversion really bad now..
