NSX now or wait for new model

I curently have an S2000 and love it, but would like something that is quieter.

How is the current NSX in terms of cruseing noise compaired to the S2000?

I am not in a hurry and am wondering if I should wait until the new NSX is introduced? I figure that if Honda did such a great job on the NSX origanaly, and given the great peformance of the S2000, then the next generation NSX may be just the ticket.

I am new to the board and would appriciate all of your help. :) :) :)

PS. Where is spell check???

Welcome.

I keep my NSX stock and a few of the southwest folks have commented on just how quiet my car is compared to the others--especially the exhaust.

Well I actually like it quiet and love to hear the roar of the engine when I hit redline. But that's just me.

I say get one now and trade it in/sell it when the new ones come out. We don't know exactly WHEN they are coming. Or even if they are coming--based on a few loose rumors floating around the net.

Anyway, you have a nice car though. But I can understand the desire for the X.

I had an '01 S2000, and sold it to my dad last chrismas. I bought a TT after and didn't like it at all. Got rid of it during the summer, and just got my NSX a few weeks ago. While my 96 isn't that much faster (if at all) than the S2000, it has much more down low, and is much more comfortable (I'm 6'4") and smoother. I wouldn't hesitate to move up to an NSX. If you like the S2000, and I loved mine, you'll like the NSX more. And if you are lucky enough to be getting a 97+, it is that much faster than 91-96. I drove a '00 with comptech headers, exhaust and race clutch. It was louder than stock, but really fast too. Very noticeable over my 96.

FOCUS: I'd get one now, as the future is quite uncertain as pertains to the NSX.

Good luck with your decision.

Regards,

Jeff

I also considered waiting for the "new" model when shopping for mine. Good thing I didn't.. that was six years ago! No one has any idea when or if there will be a new model, so why not enjoy one now.

I sold my 2000 NSX about a year ago so I could eventually buy the next generation. But I missed it so much that I just had to buy another one... just got a 2002 NSX. I am still planning on getting a next generation NSX (if there is one)... but, perhaps a couple years after the new model comes out. In the mean time, I'm VERY happy now that I have one again.

You have partially asked a ? that myself have asked about selling my NSX w/the optimism that a GenII model will be official within the next 2 years. We know the 04 is coming, but many I would assume hope that 05 will be the 2nd birth NSX and some things have been floating in the wind that are reliable sources and not what I consider rumor. Having never owned a S2000 I can't comment, but I suppose you can find out why many are nuts about this car by getting one now. If you like it, you can step up to the new design, If not, then you won't waste money down the road.

As for you partially asking a similar ?. I've got 2 prospective buyers on my car and I really wasn't thinking of its sale until next spring. Now after some recent news I'm betting a new design nsx is coming. Should I sell my x and save some additional $ for the new one & go insane w/o it while waiting for the new model I think will be annouced within 1 year.

I traded my '00 S2k (first one in KC 09/20/99) on an '03 NSX; it was the best move I ever made.

There are 3 things I miss about the S2k: the rapid deployment of the top, the way the cruise dontrol increases/decreases speed with each depression of the buttons, and the low number of lock-to-lock turns of the steering wheel.

Some of the things I like better about the NSX are: the quiet comfortable ride, the sound system, better handling in turns (IMO), visibility (more window space), and rarity (there aren't too many on the road).

I have a CTSC, intake, headers, exhaust, and clutch. At idle, the exhaust has a very slight increase in rumble and at WOT it screams. However, during normal driving the sound is very close to stock.

If I were in your position, I would go ahead and get the NSX now because, there is no certanty as to when the next gen will be available and the current gen is a great car.

After having seen the S2k site, I too wondered about the lack of spell check on NSX Prime.

Good luck w/ your decision.

If you are looking for performance, get the 91-94, or 97-03. The 95 and 96 are just a little bit weaker because of the Targa top (weight) and the same 3.0 engine.

I can give you my opinion like everyone else here all day long... but at the end, you are the one who lives with the car and making payments.

I guessed it really depends on:
If you can be lucky and come up with a good early year nsx.

or, if you can stand driving an used car. (someone absolutely hate it, I'm kind of like that too, but I got lucky and my X's previous owners are as anal as me if not more.)

My reasoning is that anybody have different opinon on different stuff ie. someone would notice the difference on the handling of a 91 vs a 00 T. Some don't. Other who likes the open air feeling doesn't care...
At the end you have to drive all your option you are considering, though that it will be extremely hard to test drive a "brand new" nsx. (be it 02, 03, 04).

My opinion would be.. If you were considering buying a new one, I personally would wait for the next gen, keeping in mind though it's probably not a good idea to buy the 1st year of production. Not only are there bugs to work out (and i would expect damn few from Honda), but if the car is a hit, prices are going to be high.

If you want to spend a bit less, by all means , get one now.. and get the newest and best maintained car you can afford.

Other than that. It's entirely up to you on how long you want to wait.

I love mine though.. It's not the fastet car on the street, and no car you buy will be, at least for long. But, it's way fast enough to get me in trouble and is a blast to drive.

Good Luck

Thanks for all your help. If I were to buy now I would probably go for an 01 or 02.

Does the T provide the open air feeling of my S2000? I could do with out the wind buffiting. :) :) :)

mikec had a very good point... the next nsx, if there's one, will at least wear the $20,000 "adjusted market value" which is markup.. Hell, even an Evo had a $12000 over it's 28,900 MSRP.

and nobody knows what is the next NSX going to be like, price, performance or anything, if you ask me what would be the best investment...(Wait, I know cars are not investment, just bare with me.) The earliest model which sells for around the border of 30k would not disappoint you nor it will depreciate too much when the all new nsx comes out.

Seriously, if I have 75k laying around, I would definately buying a higher mileage 91 for daily driver and a lower mileage for track (and modified it along the way... so the parts that I don't need on the track might be good spare for the daily driven one.)

OMG, did i just dreaming another NSX?? I just got my first one!!!
:p

I love my T. The top stays off all summer. The wind buffeting is mild. When its cold, you can raise the windows, run the heater and be comfy.

Its not quite the feeling of a full convertible, but its WAY better than a T top.

I'm in the same predicament and I have to agree with MikeC's suggestion. I thought I had my '00 NSX sold to someone on this board but after over two months holding the car and waiting for him to buy my car he bails out of the deal and doesn't even tell me he's bailing out. But in a way I don't mind because I wouldn't know what to get. If I had sold my car I would consider getting a new '04 NSX or wait for the next generation. But if I waited for the next gen it would probably be several years before I purchase one because no one knows when they will finally come out and, like MikeC said, it's best to wait for a year or two after the release so they can iron out the bugs and you won't have to pay a premium the dealers will most certainly charge for a first year new model. And it's probably not a good idea to get a '04 knowing the next gen will be coming out soon afterwards. So at least I still have my '00 to enjoy in the meantime.

A targa will never provide the open air feeling of a full convertable; however, I have found that it is much easier to hold a conversation or hear the radio at speed in an NSX than it was in my S2k.

I would definltely not wait for the next generation NSX, and I was in your exact situation!!

I hunted for a full year until I found my ultra rare silver/ivory 1991 coupe. I was intending on getting a 00/01 NSX-T, as I had just sold my 1999 328 Convertible.

The 1991 was so clean and well cared for, that I figured I'd save $3x,xxx dollars and still get an awesome car...............best decision I ever made!!

I will have minimal depreciation compared to a newer car, and I can easily sell it if the next-gen car appeals to me, which I am sure it will!
