I've been reading car enthusiast forums for awhile now to research what would be the best sports car for me.
I must say this is a great forum - friendly, informative, no flame fests (that I've seen anyway), people can actually disagree and still get along, and people can actually admit to inaccuracies and thank someone for correcting them! That is SO rare!!!
Since deciding to stay in Orange County, So Cal, I have the wrong car for me. Thought I'd be relocating up north to a rainy climate so ditched the Camaro for an AWD Subaru Impreza. I'm waiting for some venture capitol to finance a company I acted as "Angel" for. When they get funded I get my money and a new job. Until then I'm struggling. I want a great car to make up for all this ickyness. After paying off the credit cards and keeping some just for float or condo downpayment, I'll have about 30k to play with.
Haven't had a chance to test drive an NSX yet. Will have to get a '91-93 model and didn't want to drive the newest one at the dealerships since it has more power and might give me the wrong idea.
I want a daily driver that's also fun on the weekends, has some amenities/luxury, and I also appreciate cars that are somewhat unique, unusual, rare and/or fun. Willing to mod it for more power. Would like a bit of storage space - enough for groceries anyway.
Here's what I've tried out so far:
BMW M Coupe - very fun torque, but I'm only 5'2" and the steering wheel doesn't tilt or telescope so I end up sitting way up close to it, which bothers me. I've already been damaged by an air bag and prefer driving with straighter arms. Clutch is a bit stiff for driving in traffic.
Mini Cooper S - very fun on curves, would need 5 grand in mods to be a better sports car, very questionable build quality, but great clutch, nice gearbox, fantastic visibility.
G35 Coupe - great great great but over budget with options.
'01 Audi TTQ - questionable build quality, poor visibility, just barely enough torque and handling performance, otherwise perfect.
Haven't considered the Corvette because they're EVERYwhere here, same with the M3 and I could only afford a used one with the smaller engine anyway.
Anything else I should consider?
Do you think the NSX beats out the competition mentioned here? Something tells me it does... even if it's over 10 years old.
Thanks in advance for any advice you care to share.
