I am in the process of changing my front a-arm and I noticed that my upper and lower ball joint boots (the ones at the knuckle) are tore. I also noticed that there looks like there is a metal clip that holds them on. Can you replace and regrease them?? any help would be great. P.S. has any one tried to remove the ball joint on the front of the a-arm were it meets the pivot point assembly??? I am having a hard time with it.
thanks

Yes, the boots are replaceable. You should also replace the circlips when you install the new boots.

Agreed,

You will need a puller (Ball joint separator) acura part#07MAC-00100. Review the service manaul and BE SURE you install the castle nut as shown BEFORE installing and using the puller, otherwise you could ruin the threaded end of the ball joint.

The end of the threaded end of the ball joint has a cross drilled set of holes for the cotter pin. If you use the puller on the end and do not reinforce it by threading the nut on, you could crush the threaded end , rendering the Ball Joint useless, which will mean a new steering knuckle

Do you have to have the ball joint puller? Has anyone had any luck with using anything else to remove that ball joint? So are the boots available just through the dealer?
thanks

The boots and circlips are available from a dealer. A boot is about $13 and a circlip is about $7, unless you're a NSXCA member and go to Niello for a 30% discount.

I used a gear puller from Pep boys. You might be able to borrow a better tool from Autozone. I think it was the top ball joint that was very difficult to remove because the puller wouldn't fit right with the particular layout of the knuckle. The Honda tool is probably much easier to use, but it's also probably more than the $5 I paid at Pep Boys.

I am trying to remove the ball joint at the front of the a-arm (at the pivot point assembly) not the ball joint at the knuckle. Were you able to remove this one with a gear puller? any one else have any ideas other than the acura oem tool??

I recall this being a really tight spot. I would recommend the Acura puller.
