Hello,

This is my first of hopefully many more posts...

I currently own a very fast supercharged S2000, but am thinking about stepping up to an NSX in the next year or so.

I want to spend 50k or less on a Targa and I'm looking for some insight on what model I should be considering and what things to look for. Any and all help is appreciated...

Thank You,

PJ

50K or less will land you a 95-97T. The 97T does have the extra 20hp, plus the 6spd. Check to make sure that the 60K service is done along with all the other maintenances. -They are tough cars, accident withstanding, you don't have much to worry about.

Can the '97 get into the 12's bone stock? If not, how much in mods to do so?

If your objective is speed, particularly drag racing, keep in mind that the NSX-T (we don't call it a Targa) is 100+ pounds heavier than the fixed-roof coupe which was sold '91-94 and in VERY limited numbers '96-01.

If you want a nice (pristine, lower mileage) '97+, you're probably going to have to pay more than $50K - figure somewhere in the low fifties. OTOH you can get a nice '95-96 for low forties.

You have PM.

On a really good day with a really aggressive driver, yes, you might be able to get 12.9. Tell you what: To make the stock 97 performs better, just lighten it by taking out the spare tire and its rack, tools and AC condensor. You can do all this stuff by yourself and it will cost you nothing except some times. Get the manual for hlep though.

A '97 Coupe (fixed roof) can get into the 12s. Otherwise, you're probably better off getting a '91-96 and putting a supercharger into it for $7-10K.

By far the biggest installer of superchargers (and other mods) into NSXs in our area is Acura of Brookfield, just west of Milwaukee. John Vasos is the service director there.

If you put a supercharger in a '97+ car, you will certainly exceed your budget. You might want to find one that's already been done, like this one.

Ok,

So a bone stock '97 fixed roof will get into the 12s?

If I did get the T, what mods would be required to do so other than lightening the car? I would not be interested in the SC, as I don't want to incorporate that kind of cost.

Do exhaust and headers make a true difference on these cars? They do not on the S2000...

Exhaust and header will definitely improve the higher RPM responses. Add an intake for good measure to.

Here is the list:

Lighten it (Spare tire and rack, tools and AC.)
Intake.
Header.
Exhaust.
