BBSC in NYC

Hello everyone, I have the latest version of the standard BBSC kit installed on my 1992. (Novi 2000 w/ latest SS box mounted behind drivers seat) I would recommend this kit. I would, of course, talk to Mark B. about authorized installers on the East coast. Mark has flown out to NYC twice (on his own expense) to complete the installation. I have never had a problem w/ contacting Mark, on the telephone, when I had a question/problem. If anyone has a question on my set up, wants to see the install or go for a ride. Please feel free to contact me. A special thanks goes out to Larry Bastanza and Joe Toth. They have helped me on numerous occasions, often free of charge.

Have you had it tuned and dynoed? When does it start making boost?

You have a great support network there. I hope you enjoy it!

Hey Jerry,

Great to hear there's good support for BBSC NSX's here in the NYC area. What part of NYC do you live in? I'm an ex-911 owner (1973 911S 2.4) looking for a relatively newer and less maintenence intensive car for weekend trips and track events. I'd love to see your BBSC setup, as I'm considering a supercharged NSX as one of my options.

Hello

Net Viper: It's tuned but not dyno'd. Dyno's vary from shop to shop, so it's hard to get accurate figures. I would participate in a group dyno session though. The boost kicks in around 4000 to 4500 rpm. 6lbs. of boost at around 5000 rpm. When making boost, FJO reads a consistant 10.

Brad: I live in Queens, Richmond Hill

AK and Donwon: You should give Mark a call. He will tell who is capable of doing what.

So basically, even with the latest stuff, it still feels mostly stock until VTEC...?

Too Rich

When making boost, FJO reads a consistant 10.

Most tuners would say that under boost, the air-fuel ratio should be from 11.8:1 to 12.2:1.

Hello,
Netviper: The SS box does have an output for electronic boost control and Mark has sent me a higher boost pulley. It's just a matter of time before I get the new pulley installed. I believe the electronic SS box boost control is working on a few AZ cars, but please call Mark for more details.

Andy: Does 10 A/F include a safety factor? I will be tuning the car w/ the new pulley soon. Any suggestions?

Wow

10 A/F is pretty rich. Even with my Gen 1 SS box I didn't see anything greater than 11.4. Might want to make a few calls on this to your support network. I'm sure Andy can offer some good advice on this as well.

Here comes the trouble maker

Gee, I thought it was a legitimate question. Not to speak for NetViper, but I'm pretty sure that he is still considering a BBSC for his car.

I didn't read it that way

Should I touch this or not? :p Respectfully, somebody that has been interested in the BBSC since this time last year at NSXPO 2002, should know what the kit does and does not do. I would bet a margarita that he knew about the power charateristics of the BBSC w/o having to ask the question in this thread. Reminds me of somebody else that sold his BBSC, but sometimes "makes a statement". And I'm not the only one that made that observation.

This is why I said what I did. In another thread NetViper said that if an affordable turbo is available, his post implied that he would be interested. I replied that Cybernation's kit is not yet available to the public. A day or two later I was corrected by somebody that visited Cyber's shop. Sooooooo, if our prospective shopper knows all about the BBSC, but might want to go for an affordable turbo, why is he asking "baited" questions about the BBSC?

Oopsie, I may be reprimanded for "putting words in his mouth".

Happy VTEC-ing (with boost, regardless of which flavor) :D

Hi Jerry - in my personal (but often not so humble :) opinion) 10 is too safe. The richest I would run is 11, but strive for 12 for optimum power. I know who is tuning your car, it is in good hands.

Ok BBSC guys .. time to chill out...

Yes, I know a lot about the BBSC, BUT Jerry has the latest updates etc. and I LEGITIMATELY wanted to know when the boost was coming on. Andy, you repeatedly say how your boost comes on at low RPM, so I wanted to know how Jerry's car was doing.

I don't know why you think I hate the BBSC. I quite enjoyed driving it when I got the chance. When it hit VTEC I could not stop grinning. It was very different from the Comptech SC. My comparison would be the comptech feels like you have a V8 back there but a very simliar feeling to stock. The BBSC feels stock until 5K when it feels like afterburners kick in and you get mashed in your seat. Very cool indeed.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know SQUAT about tuning, running rich and lean etc... so I am always interested in a new install. It sounds like Jerry might need some more tuning from KGP's comments.

So.. before you bite my head off (ANDY and ARMANDO), maybe you should give me the benefit of the doubt. The questions I ask I think benefit anyone looking for a BBSC and are certainly not to cause trouble.

My biggest questions is still... If I bought a used BBSC, is my engine still covered under the warranty if something goes wrong...? That is a serious concern of mine.

PS. Andy.. thank you for taking the time to memorize my old posts... it means a lot ;)

That should be your question regardless of what FI you install in your car

If thats the case then buy the comptech. Or make friends with a good tuner.

Be sure to ask this question of all the other forced induction vendors as well. I appreciate your concern of the warranty aspect; however, that was not what you asked in this thread. Not "biting your head off" just noting that your two first questions focus on power, not warranty - two different facets. Until your last post you have not mentioned at all, a transferable warranty in this thread. As Miami and I "sensed", right wrong or indifferent, there may have been a red herring posted herein.

As a data point, I purchased a new FI from a prominent vendor and was left with my very own engine repair bill. Boost safely.

(My biggest questions is still... If I bought a used BBSC, is my engine still covered under the warranty if something goes wrong...? That is a serious concern of mine.)

Why would ANY vendor give you a warranty on a used FI system, if they are not selling it to you?

They dont know what the last guy has done to the unit.
There is nothing in it for them but a head ache to do this.
The only way your going to get a warranty is to buy one from a vendor and have HIM install it.

You guys sure are hostile when it comes to the BBSC.

It is no secret now that numerous engines have been killed with the BBSC installed. MB warranties their engine repair and that is incredible. (he took out an insurance policy for that exact reason)

So, if I installed a BBSC from someone who is selling thiers because it killed their engine, don't you think I would be a little concerned? -- And before you get all pissed off and name calling andy.. it is not 92NSX I am referring to.

So, if MB's policy works on a second install, then I guess there is nothing to worry about. If however, it does not.. and I am on my own if it kills my engine.. then I will pass and look at a more proven solution. Simple as that. I don't think I am alone on this one.

Nothing against the BBSC. I think it is a great idea and I hope that all the bugs get worked out of it. I would be proud to own one.

Hi Dave,

It sounds really simple to me. Call 602-244-8010, ask for Mark and ask your warranty question to him:).

He is the ONLY one that can answer your question.
