CTSC performance thoughts?

Being in CA - unfortunately SMOG / CARB cert is an issue (leaving Turbo a bit of a pain)

I'd like to get into F/I and am interested in thoughts on the relative performnace of the CTSC with H/E on a '95 with short gears and 4.55 R&P

Do those that have this type of set up feel competitive with the likes of a Z06 and 911 TT? Ive spent some time in a Z06 and - while its no NSX - it does have some spunk. I'd like to get the 'X' up to this level of performance and am hoping the CTSC will get me there in a rather straightforward manner...

thoughts?

ZO6/Porche TT vs. CTSC et al

Your question is kind of apples and oranges.
I have the CTSC, H/E, 4.235 RP and Short gears. My car kept pace with a Cobra SVT in a straight out drag but the torquey ZO6 is very much a different beast. The Porsche TT is really an awesome supercar with the amazing combination of performance and traction. I have been overall happy with the crisp acceleration of the CTSC and enjoy driving it hard. I think if you are trying to beat or compete with these other cars you might want to look at Factor X or Gerry Johson's products.

Hmm. I would think your car with all those mods would be faster than a stock SVT. I don't think they run much faster than a 13 1/4. A stock 2004 NSX should be able to keep up.

Andy has repeatly said his BBSC will run with 911TT, so you may want to look at that option.

I've had the 1st generation BBSC (Novi 1000), with I/H/E and stock gears, and that was more than able to take care of a stock Z06 (I pulled 5-7 car lengths by 110 mph on him), and equal or faster than a '02 996 TT (straight race to 100, and some mountain road racing).

I've since then put on a 6 lbs CTSC with H/E, and my personnal seat of the pants feeling was that the CTSC was appreciably faster.

You should have no problem with the CTSC and a Z06, and on par with a 996 TT.

thats some good input. im surprised - any others have comment? I certainly appreciate the added performance of a GJ turbo kit - two issues need to be fixed, the fact that i am odb-ii, and an 'easy' way to get smog delt with.. CTSC seems to fit the bill - if it delivers the sort of performance that will get the car on par with 996-Ts...

I have the CTSC, airbox, headers and exhaust. If seat-of-the-pants feel and the occasional walk-away-from-the-competition is any indication, it is a super combination. The added plus is: with my car still being under warranty, the CTSC was the only blower the Acura people would approve.

I have a '00 NSX-T with the Comptech 9PSI and I would say that it is on par with a 996TT and slightly faster than a ZO6. I own a 993TT and when it was stock was about the same as my NSX is now.

With what you are looking to do I think the Comptech would work well for you.

Good Luck!

Accurately stated.

I have the CTSC on my 1994 for a month and half and it has been a flawless performer. The stock version 3.0l is already too much car for my skill. Now, with the CTSC, the car got some real steroid in it and it feels like a different car. It scares me sometimes with its tremendous passing power. Don't worry about the peak horsepower/torque numbers of other cars compared to the NSX. Chances are you will NEVER explore that territory significantly enough to even make comparison with other cars. The most important thing is how the car feels to you. Numbers are absolutely useless when it comes to such capable cars. I have been a diehard Porsche man for life and have owned and driven many 911s. I also test drove the newest M3 which has something like 50hp more than the 3.0l. So far the NSX feels the most solid and precise. The M3 and Carreras feel sloppy in steering, shifter and suspension by comparison. I don't even think they feel fast. My friend Steve Werre sold his CTSCed Zanardi to buy a 996 and he told me that it was the biggest mistake on cars he has made. He soon dumped the 996 and bought another NSX. IMO, unless you are a track competitor, these peak numbers are for academic purpose only. Now with my "new" NSX, I don't think I miss out on anything other than a fresher styling. The HSC is going to be the fix but it will be a few years from now.

Don't you guys consider the 9lbs unit an overkill? A 6lbs will allow you to keep up with almost anything short of a 420hp sport car, but a 9lbs -- Wow.

Actually there is only about a 20hp increase between the two, so it isn't a drastic increase. I would say that when it comes to hp you can never have too much as long as the car stays driveable and is reliable.

If it is only 20hp, will the 9lbs unit pass smog legally like the 6lbs unit?

Chopsjazz,

It worked out great. But if you ever have your car "Totalled," don't let the insurance company tell you what it is worth. The only way to go is to have an independant forensic appraisal sp? done. There are only a couple of guys in the country that do it. After all was said and done, I made about $20K profit of a '91.

CTSC is good for most people

I have a high boost CTSC on my 91 NSX. It has stock intake, headers, and exhaust. I recently dropped the cats on it. I've raced a couple of ZO6s and a 03 Mustang Cobra (the one with the supercharger). I've beaten each of them by a fair margin (at least 2 car lengths below 100 mph. I've ran my car at the 1/4 mile track when I just had the supercharger installed with a aftermarket clutch and ran a best 12.3 @ 114mph (posted a couple of years ago in the track forum). Since then I removed the stock rims and tires, cats, and shortgears keeping the stock ring and pinion. My car just went over 100k and still is pulling strong. The only thing is that I want more so I'm looking at maybe switching to Turbo. Just some info... As for headers, that will be my next performance upgrade while I decide if I want to sell my CTSC.
