DC/VA/NC NSXers: Lud and I would like to get together a drive/meet on Sunday 11/30 (after Thanksgiving). Plans are still forming, but we'd probably start in Charlottesville and then hit a section of Skyline Drive with some twisties and interstate highway action in between. We'll probably also do a meal somewhere in Charlottesville after the event. Reply here if interested. -Howard

Put me on as a tentative. Weather permitting I'll be doing the sports car trip in the mountains over the holiday, so it'd be fun to meet up with you all on day three of twisties.:p

Bummer,

I will be driving my a$$ off at VIR that weekend trying to keep up with 3 forced induction NSXes and the G&W Grand AM Porsches:D

Have fun guys and take pictures.

Should be fun, as of now the weather forecast is cool and mostly sunny for the weekend. Howard will announce the details this week. This may be the last real chance to do much before winter sets in and all the roads have gravel/chemical on them even when the weather is nice.

I asked Howard, who thought it might be OK, if an M5 or two could join in the festivities?

I might be able to join you all, but need to get an idea of what the itinerary will be. Where would we be leaving from and how long of a trip are we talking about?

Would you mind if I invited another M5 or two along?

I have no problem with M5's coming along ...as long as they use just 6 cylinders. :) I will post more details soon. What we'll probably do is head down Skyline drive to where it intersects I-64 on Afton Mountain. (Lud and anyone from NC will be coming up from the south, I presume). We can then have lunch on Afton mountain and explore some of the twisties leading down from/up to the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. I'd say be prepared to leave the DC area at 9- 9:30 in the morning. We'll plan to have everyone home by late afternoon.

Sounds like a good time. I'll see if I can round up another M5 or two.

I'm trying to start a local M5 group. I was pretty dismal at trying to organize the Maryland NSX'ers. I'm trying to improve my record but am aiming for next spring formalizing the thing.

(I'll use 6 cylinders if I can get your fuel economy!)

David it would be great if you could make it! I look forward to seeing you again, it has been a few years... And if you're bringing your M5, do you think an NSX-T clamshell engine cover would fit in your car? I've agreed to buy one from a guy up in MD for a project and it would be perfect if I could just unload it from someone at this event...

Howard I thought you (personally, not the whole drive) were starting out from C'Ville? It sounds like you are talking about coming down from DC (driving down skyline drive TO I-64...) ?

Anyway, just let me know where and when to meet everyone. Perhaps e-mail would be preferable for exact routes and times.

Would fit no problem. Shoot, it'll fit 3 more adults and a cat! :)

I'll let you know for sure whether or not I can attend by Friday. And then your friend can just drop off the panel at my house or I can swing by and pick it up.

Drive Route and Details

We have an AWESOME drive planned, including parts of Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, hi-speed Interstate and twisty uphill/downhill sections:

From NO.VA.: I-66 West to 29 South to Warrenton
From MD (via Pt. of Rocks bridge) 15 South to 15/29 South to Warrenton.

At Warrenton, follow signs to 211 West (MD/VA people will meet in Warrenton at 10 am!!!! - call my cell and I'll locate an easy spot to meet. 703.593.4273)

We'll take 211 West to Skyline Drive ($10 entry fee) and then proceed South, exiting at the Swift Run Gap Exit onto Rte. 33 West toward Elkton, VA. Then we'll take 340 South to I-64 East and climb to the top of Afton Mountain. We'll meet Lud at the Afton motel restaurant at 12:30 for lunch and panoramic views.

After lunch, we'll go South on the Blue Ridge Parkway, then head down the mountain on 60 West toward Buena Vista. From there we'll hit I-81 North and then I-64 East heading back up Afton Mountain. This time atop Afton, we'll take Skyline Drive NORTH until the first exit at Swift Run Gap. (from there Lud will likely depart). We'll take 33 East back to 29 North and then head home. I expect everyone to be back in the DC area by 5:30-7pm, depending on where you live.

Bring: cell phone, 2-way radio (and an extra if you have it).

Please CALL me if you're going to make this drive (I won't have access to email after Friday) 703 593 4273. -Howard Stanton
10 am !!!

10 AM Meeting place in Warrenton

Eddie Whitman is bringing his Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 !!
He said the easiest place to meet (at 10 am sharp!) is at the Sheetz in Warrenton. Take 29 South to Business 29 (Warrenton). Approx. 1 mile to the first light, and Sheetz will be on your right.

There should be very little traffic where we're going. There may be some on I-66 coming back into DC Sunday afternoon, though.

Howard,
I will attend the Skyline drive on Sunday.
This time I will drive my EVO.
Anybody from VA area will meet at Sheetz Gas Station at 10 AM ?
Let me know.
See you guys Sunday.

Ary

The weather forecast is great: high of 55, sunny, ZERO percent chance of rain. See you guys Sunday. -Howard

bring just the normal FRS radio- mine doesn't have any sub-channels - we'll use channel 10.
