I finally did it. I took the engine cover off. I have been wanting to try it for a long time and just decided to do it.

Impressions thus far. It is louder.. no question. Over 4K RPM you can really hear the difference.

It looks very ferrari 360 like to me... so that is very cool.

I think I would rather have the cover with a glass piece in there though to see the engine and not get the extra noise. I would imagine the mesh would not help the noise issue, so I think glass is the way to go. That being said, I would never pay $600 for cantrell cover. That is WAY too much IMO.

No problems with the seal or rattles thus far.

I agree it looks much better with it off.

In my opinion, once you take it off, add a little flair to your engine by painting some parts, then replaced some stock hoses with color ones.

I like Steven coolant tank. Looks much better. Where do I get that? I haven't seen it on SoS.

I got my coolant tank from Dali and painted it Grey Mark also had the Cap anodized Red for me.. the Carbon Glass fuse box cover is from Dali to. The CF Airbox, Strut Bar and Oil Cap is from Comptech. I removed the big ugly White sticker and tossed a couple vinyl ones on to cover a few nicks up from removing it here is a side shot.

I had my engine cover off for years. Over harsh bumps, I can hear the hatch bang a little. I have an extra engine cover and was thinking of cutting out as much I can just leaving the outer frame with the rubber gasket. That should make it a more solid fit. That will be my next project.

Here's my engine bay. Next item to chrome is the airbox and obtain some polished coil covers.

One of the cheapest mod for the car! Well, until you start putting in new engine dressings and hoses. Yeah I agree, the milk jug's got to go! hehe

i really like the new coolant tank's too -- changing just that alone gives the engine a massively improved look. top stuff.

is it still easy to check the levels even though the tank is no longer transparent?

Those who have the engine cover off, when you wash the car

does any water get into the engine compartment? I don't drive in the rain so that is not a concern but washing is.
TIA

No, it doesn't, but whatever small leak there is, your engine is very well protected by all the seals and valve covers.

Take a regular engine cover, sand it down to smooth it out (getting rid of the hairy thing on top,) measure it, then cut the appropriate two spaces to put in the mesh thing. WHen you are done with all that, you are good to go.

Arron, would you like to add anything to this?
