Supercharged 98 NSX or 97 993TT?

I'm having the hardest time deciding which one to pick. The 993TT is a little more money but not by much. I like to see what others have to say based on what they know or ownership experience.

A supercharged NSX will be more powerful than a 993TT, plus you get the reliability and look of the vehicle. I have seen a Basch-supercharged NSX ran neck-to-neck, and gained a little on the straight-away against a 996TT, not 993TT, but 996TT. I know a Porshe is reliable, but more so with the NSX.

As much as I like my NSX, if maintenance costs are not a factor in your decision, the 97 993TT will become a classic sooner if it has not already and has retained its value more so because it was one of the last air cooled and hand built Porsches as opposed to the newr generation. Also, you have many more aftermarket options and upgrades with the Porsche.

My high school friend bought his 993 black/black wide body with Turbo option looks/wheels (but not Turbo) the same time I did my 98-T; his has a higher market value than mine even though both costs about the same. I would think this would be even more applicable when cmparing a supercharged NSX with a factory 993TT. Also, you have more cargo space in the Porsche.

But then, my oil change costs only $60 and thus far with two dozen track events I have had no reliability issues whatsoever. And people will still do a double take when they see an NSX even though they may not know which model year it is. I doubt they will do the same for a 97 993TT ..... ;)

YMMV

Well said Hrant. 993/996 are all pretty common in their own times and even with the big whale tail, it doesn't really make the car stand out like the NSX. I personally think the new GT2 very much and the body style but it's out of my price range. Aftermarket parts are abundant on the Porsche and you can easily turn a 400hp TT to a 550hp+ monster. But the main factory for me is if I am able to work on the car myself when something goes wrong and without too much difficulties or too time consuming. Hondas are very famaliar to meand I have been doing my own work for over 10 years. Never worked on a Porsche before and the service manual has over 26 volumes and costs over $800.

I have both a 996TT and a Comptech supercharged NSX. It would be a very tough choice if I had to get rid of one of them. The Porsche is a much faster car car than the NSX (even supercharged) but in my opinion is not as nice of a car to drive. If it was a weekend only car I would buy the 993TT (I had a deposit on one before I bought my 996TT) but if you're looking for a car to drive on a regular basis the NSX is much more comfortable. The backward pedals on the 993 drive me nuts and the interior is classic Porsche but is quite primitive. If you're into turning heads then you get a lot of attention with the NSX but the Porsche gets instant recognition by just about everyone. I also find that every yahoo in a civic, integra, mustang etc wants to race the NSX. They all leave me alone in the Porsche.
