Hello Folks-

I know that it was mentioned by someone somewhere else, but the "Running of the Bulls Northeast" event made it into Autoweek last week (Issue with the new BMW 6 Series on the cover). Bob, I can see your car as well as Ernie's and perhaps a speck of the rood of my own;);) :D !!! Sorry I can't use my digital camera to save my life, but perhaps you can scrounge the issue in a library somewhere?

Cheers-

P.S. -John, I think I see your car parked next to the Lotus V8TT. Bailey, definately cannot see your car, sorry.

JUST ONE LAMBORGHINI IS enough to turn heads, but imagine a couple dozen rolling through sleepy New England towns and you can understand the magic of the inaugural Running of the Bulls East, staged by the Northeast Region of the Lamborghini Club America (lamborghiniclub.com).

The event was a celebration of 40 years of Sant’Agata’s finest. Owners set out from three locations in New York for the bucolic landscape of Bennington, Vermont. Even more extraordinary than the picturesque destination was the turnout of cars: candy-colored Diablos, brutal-looking Countaches, sleek Espadas and a lone, wedge-shaped Urraco.

There was a healthy dose of other exotics on hand as well, everything from Ferraris, NSXs and Porsches to Lotus Esprits.

A stunning Iso Grifo was a crowd favorite while a 2001 Diablo VT in brilliant metallic tangerine paint simply sparkled.

The cars wound their way along narrow highways lined with trees ablaze in brilliant hues of red, gold and orange on this chilly fall day. At each gap in traffic one or two drivers would punch the throttle, effortlessly leaving the others behind.

Upon arriving in Bennington, an informal concours was staged in the Hemmings Motor News parking lot. Participants chatted and poked their heads into the cockpits and under the hoods of vehicles. Adding to the festivities, Automobili Lamborghini North America and Manhattan Motor Cars held a raffle that offered winners the chance to get behind the wheel of a Murciélago or Gallardo.

Lamborghini Club board member Patrick Rolling deemed the event a total success. “We had twice as many cars as expected, the weather and the run were fabulous, and nobody broke down,” he said. Stay tuned. Already there’s talk of a 2004 Running of the Bulls East. -NICK KURCZEWSKI

BEHIND THE HEADLIGHTS

A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney

>>> A SERIES OF 12 one-hour specials debuting on Speed Channel in February headline a growing list of auto enthusiast programs for Speed in the coming year. Up to a dozen new, original shows for car enthusiasts are in the works for 2004.

Certain cars have a knack for taking on lives of their own, and the series Behind the Headlights will acquaint viewers with 12 of these very special cars, along with their history and the history of each marque.

“Everyone has a car story—their first car, their favorite car, a car that remains a central character in a special memory,” said Speed Channel president Jim Liberatore. “Behind the Headlights taps into that passion in a unique way.”

Some of the cars to be featured in Behind the Headlights include Rene Dreyfus’ Delahaye V12, James Dean’s Porsche Spyder, Max Balchowsky’s Ol’ Yaller, the Dan Gurney/A.J. Foyt GT40 Mk IV, Clark Gable’s Duesenberg, the C4 of Briggs Cunningham, John Lennon’s Rolls-Royce, Elvis Presley’s Cadillac and Steve McQueen’s Jaguar.
