Anyone in Orange County area have the special brake tool I could borrow tomorrow? Or can anyone explain how to retract the cylinder without it? I did hte fronts no problem, but I can't get the back to recess. I even pulled the thing off and put it in my vice, but still no dice =]

I'm obviously missing something here. thanks guys...

mhoyt01,

The rear caliper pistons screw back in, it is that straightforward. They are on a VERY fine thread so you will have to turn them quite a few times if your pads are truly at end of life.

The "tool" is a very common tool, available at places like Autozone. It is a square object with different pin pairs on each side for different caliper pistons and it fits on a 3/8 drive extension. I think it was about $7:). The first time I did it, I did not have one and used the biggest screwdriver I had, it worked fine.

Thank you kind sir, the large screwdriver did the trick...

I had tried to spin it, but without nearly enough leverage.

I use a large power screwdriver and it only takes a few seconds. Use the widest flat blade you can find and wedge it near one on the edges and move the screwdriver around in a circle as it turns.

Sometimes I have to start it manually but works every time for me.
