Advice please for my first purchase!

I am actively looking to purchase my first NSX. I live in Northern California (Bay Area) and am reluctant to purchase a vehicle without prior inspection.

I have located the following 2001 at a dealer in the Sacramento area:

I was told the vehicle was purchased at an auction out of New York. The vehicle was supposedly purchased for the owner of the dealer. I asked why he is selling the car and the response was, "He has many cars and drives whatever he wants." Obviously they did not answer my question.

I would appreciate any advice on the following:

1) Does anybody know anything about the vehicle or have opinions on whether I should be concerned even before I personally inspect?

2) Would anybody be interested in helping me personally inspect the vehicle? I have never even driven an NSX and feel somewhat concerned about my ability to evaluate the car.

3) Are there any good mechanics in the Davis, CA (Sacramento) area I could use for an inspection?

I appreciate any and all comments and suggestions.

If you haven't read it already, I suggest looking at the FAQ entry for purchasing.

Only you can say whether you are happy with buying a car where you don't know the full history and don't have all the service records. This is an issue for many buyers--something to think about if ease of resale matters to you.

Not being in a rush gives you a better chance of finding a car that will satisfy you.

Definitely have a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done at a qualified dealer BEFORE buying. Cost about $150 and worth every penny. The first NSX I decided on failed miserably, the owner didn't want to have the necessary repairs done so I shopped elsewhere.

Yes, two excellent ones, both with tons of NSX experience:

Niello Acura (dealer) in Sacramento
Pettitt's Automotive (independent) in Roseville

I'm not sure where you are in the S. F. Bay Area, but once you bring it home, Don's Hilltop is also very highly regarded for NSX service.
