ME Four-Twelve
By far the most dramatic of the four vehicles was the beautiful, purposeful ME Four-Twelve. This supercar was made all the more impressive by the revelation from Trevor Creed, senior vice president of the Chrysler Group design, that the ME Four-Twelve was complete in less than one year.
The ME Four-Twelve name is derived from the mid-engine placement of a quad-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine. Bernard explained the name is appropriate because the car was literally designed around the engine.
The AMG-developed all-aluminum 6.0-liter V12 engine produces 850 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque, and the car has a curb weight of only 2,880 pounds. Power get transferred to the wheels via a 7-speed Ricardo Double Clutch Transmission developed specifically for the vehicle; it uses the latest double wet-clutch technology and electronic controls. The transmission delivers uninterrupted torque to the rear wheels, shifting between gears in 200 milliseconds.
The ME Four-Twelve is intended to set new performance standards for a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive sports car. Although the performance has not been measured in driving tests, with the aid of computer modeling Chrysler expects the ME Four-Twelve to set new performance standards for a rear-wheel-drive mid-engine sports car: a top speed of 248 mph, or 400 kilometers per hour.
The ME Four-Twelve is expected to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and from zero to 100 mph in 6.2 seconds.

Hey NSX Racer,

I'm just curious..I need to win the lottery to buy one..:D....if and when it rolls out of production the HSC would be most likely left out...v12 850hp..wow...unless they (honda) comes out with a Higher HP/performance sportscar in its class..

Prototype means the actual model before production and not just a "Concept" right?..

If they were to come out with this car, it wouldn't be competition for the NSX. This car would be to compete with the Enzo and the Carrera GT and I would imagine be priced close to 400K or above. I hope they produce the car, I might start saving my pennies. Does anyone here get a Chrysler discount? I can get A plan on Ford and GM, but nothing with Chrysler.

Damn!

Anyone else wish this was from Honda?

Got any shots from the rear?

IMHO, that is one gorgeous looking car. Some stuff is overdone like the lower door panels, but you would expect that on a prototype showcar. On the whole, it has more potential for production good looks than the HSC. As for the 850hp, that is about 500HP MORE than an HSC. I agree that it is probably in a different class based on price/power, but THAT is what inspires automotive passion.

If Honda is going to redo the NSX every 15 years or so, they better not be content with incremental progress. I am not demanding 850HP but 400+HP, a diet, and some (continued/updated) classic supercar lines would be nice!

I hope they actually produce this car. I don't get excited anymore about obscenely-powered concept cars that never make it to the streets. Remember the Dodge Tomahawk bike with the Viper powered engine? Chrysler was going to bring it to production, but it turns out it's only in the form of extremely limited, non-fully operational replicas.

BTW, this design reminds me of a futuristic Ford GT.

EDIT:
Nevermind I misread PhoeNSX's post.

It kind of reminds me of the VW W12 Supercar prototype of a few years ago:

That is one Sexy Machine

It seems like everybody is getting into the super exotic market these days. I wonder when they will reach saturation?

How many customers out there are really rich enough to keep the Super Exotic line up flowing:

Maclaren Mercedes SLR, Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari Enzo, Cadillac 16, Bugatti, Pagani Zonda, Saleen S7, and that Swedish car that I can't even pronounce properly let alone spell. I think it goes something like this, Conegzeck.

Koenigsegg - there is a Top Gear episode about that car that is unreal. Grab it if you get a chance.

A lot of you probably noticed already that the carmakers are now setting a new standard for the exotic sports car...

Staggering horsepower and extremely lightweight..we're talking about HUGE HP high Torgue and the way I see it modern exotics sportscar will have atleast 400HP minimum and probably weigh arround 2500 lbs more or less...

It's like when they introduced the NSX the first time 13 years ago (?)...Mid engine...All Aluminum...270HP Vtec..I guess during those days it was considered a super exotic inline with the best sportscar there is...

I also read that this was indeed a working prototype car and is not a mere concept car....

My guess is ...it will go on production in the next couple of years depending on the public interest...

WHite,

That's an awesome design..I love it...Hope the next NSX looks like that.....WOW!
Did u know if this VW concept ever built?

OT: VW toyed around with the idea of bringing the Nardo to production. They even did some high-speed testing with their "prototype", breaking the 24-hour speed record in the process. But alas, they backed out of the plans, so your only chance to own one now is to buy the die-cast model:

Jag,

Those pics are from the Tokyo autoshow in 2001. IMHO, that is one of the best looking cars I've ever seen (along with the Saleen S7).

It was rumored that they were going to produce it for a while when Ferdinand Piech was at the helm of Audi/VW but I think it is dead now that he has 'retired'.

Old article (click)

I think the W12 concept lives on in a a few different forms in the Bentley Continental GT, the VW Phaeton and a new Audi A8.

Phaeton here
Bentley Continental GT here
Audi A8 W12 here

Neat technology, but I really loved look of that other concept. If I could pick one 'look' for the next NSX, that would be it.

PhoeNSX beat me to it - I didn't know it was called the Nardo!

I was surfing Edmunds for news on the ME412 and came across a shot of the engine. (attached below)

850HP @ 5750rpm
850lb-ft TQ @ 2500rpm
2800lb curb weight
0-60 in 2.9s
248mph top speed

YUMMY!

I agree, these horsepower wars are getting ridiculous. Honda, don't even try to keep up. It's time for another technological breakthrough, something that will be far more useful in the real world: a flying car! :D

I am going to the Auto show on monday, I was going today but had to snow plow all night.
I missed the after party that they showed the new vete.
The Hsc is there also.
I will get some pics for you guys of me in it. :D

Jagtiger: It's called a concept car. Maybe it can influence a future series car but it will never be series itself. The W 12 Nardo is dead, the big Cadillac is dead and the Bugatti (also in the 400kph league) has a lot of problems before the (mini-)series production even began.

There is always a market for these hyper machines (Porsche GT, McLarenMerc almost or completely sold out) but they should work - the above mentioned don't or didn't do that properly. More than 600 hp on a street car is always a very special challenge for the engineers (and the drivers).

Phoenix,

You're definitely right! This is what we need " A flying NSX". The fastest of them all...LOL:D :D

"BY THE WAY THIS ONE COMES WITH A T-TOPS"

jagtiger : LOL... But only 'Acura NSX Pilot' could drive that thing! :D :D :D
So does the T-top stand for "targa" or the wing? Wow... that wing is bigger than MYNSX's! ;)

NEO...LOL!!Yep we need AcuraNSXPilot for this one...:D

How do you like the rear wing? I think it would look better with NSX-R rear wings...
