NSX Vs Viper

The NSX can be made to be quite smoking!

My guess is that the NSX has the factorX turbo. No way it'd trap at 117mph without some kind of FI or Nitrous.

117mph is slow, now 11.44 @ 122.72mph with the FactorX Turbo is fast. Videos can be seen on the LVRacingScene website here. Keep in mind Las Vegas is at 2000 ft. above sea level and when you take into account barometric pressure, this greatly affects times. Pinapple drives the NSX very well, I must say :p

BTW, Below is an example of how the altitude affects times.
Camaros run approximately 14.3 in Vegas and in the San Diego/LA area, they run 13.78 times, with not many breaking into the 13's.

Nice!

I'm actually in the market for a new car and have narrowed my choice to the NSX and Viper :) So I have alot of lurking to do to decide, heh.

ChrisA --> i was considering selling my X to get a 97 viper gts...but after doing a search on viper topics...

many peeps find the X a better car in terms of comfort and relibility....so i have made up my mind in keeping the X and perhaps adding some upgrades...header, exhaust, lowering springs, and crossed drilled rotors for looks and performance...

i think the ultimate factor for me not getting a viper is the viper's fuel economy..12 miles/gallon for normal city driving.....

Just rent a Viper and try putting 300 miles or so on it comfortably. Sure it's fun and has lots of power, but man, I hated it after a while. Poor visibility, driving position in relation to the pedals sucks (they are set off to the left), shifter sits high and is in an awkward position, footwell is too small and offset for both driver and passenger, fuel economy sucks, A/C is almost useless with the hot exhaust running next to you, the roof leaks (don't drive in bad weather), and I could go on and on.

But the Viper does look good, has lots of power, and is exciting.

Cool car, but for a daily driver? Hell no. Maybe a second car or weekend car.

On the other hand, the NSX is fun & user friendly. It doesn't do anything really GREAT, but it does do everything suprisingly well. It's a real well rounded sports car IMO. Good choice for a daily driven sports car.

Thanks guys :) I am still about 50/50 on both cars as neither one will be a daily driver. For an all around car I like the NSX. But the power and potential of the Viper keeps pulling me in. I have always wanted a car that was just strait up FAST, but never really had one. But at the same time I love spirited driving so would like something that handles a little better. We'll see. Maybe I can hit the lottery and buy both, hah.

Myself being on the other end of the spectrum... One who has driven a viper quite a bit and a nsx nil. My family has both a 00RT and a 96 GTS. I put well over 5k miles on the GTS this summer alone with road trips ranging in all distances and druations in the driver seat. I don't have too many complaints about long distance traveling other than that of the lack of cargo space but its to be expected with "those" types of automobiles. I prefer the 96 over the 00 RT because of the visibility reasons and I hate the shifters in the newer ones but than again you have power windows. Gas milage in the Viper is suprisingly well. If driven within the laws...I have pulled 24+mpg on 150 mile commute from home to school... And I have pulled a minimal 8mpg around town or more "sportive" driving on the highways.

Complaints that have been listed about the footwells I have to agree. Being 6'1-6'2 there is no footrest for that left foot so on long trips its a pain sometimes. The ride is stiff but I don't mind im young and can take a little bit of a beating.

I have always been a fan of the NSX's but this summer after a road trip with a few of them definately swayed my way towards possibly owning one in the near future because of the layout and just the way they drove... I was impressed. Add a S/C and I would be happy:D

My choice for a daily driver exotic would now go towards the gallardo

When I drove a friend's Viper, I felt like I was constantly being punched in the kidneys. It was a very uncomfortable driver, and while the power was intoxicating, it was a PITA to drive for very long. Plus, even the slightest moisture made it impossible to control.

The NSX has the best ergonomics around in my opinion, and is very easy to drive all day. I don't like to feel like I've been in a steel-cage death match after driving my cars, so no Viper for me.

Kroger,

Thanks for the well written and even report. Many drivers of a certain type car (including ours) tend to raise it up above all else. It is nice to have someone just report their findings without a lot of baggage. Excellent post.

That is actually our Factor X Upgraded CTSC with a 50shot of nitrous. We ran the Viper back to back with the same results. The Viper was NA with a few modifications. Probably the harshest environments we have ever raced in. As Anytime mentioned the Altitude and Barometric Pressure played a significant role.

what about the most recent 03 viper? i was under the impression it was more refined
