I belong to staff of a local car organization, www.CSRAMotorsports.com, and we will be holding a giant car show/race day at our local dragstrip.

My car will be one of three placed on display for our vendor booth as a demo vehicle. So, a few days prior to the show Im going to garage the car and detail it. Keep in mind I only can use what I have, so no "you should use product X" responses. Im well aware of better products, I want advice on my current setup.

I will be using

1. Zymol Cleaner Wax (Baby Blue Bottle)
2. Meguiars Deep Krystal Polish (Maroon Bottle)
3. Magic Claybar (w/Detail Spray)
4. Simple Green Mixes (for wheels and such)
5. Meguiars High Endurance Tire Shine
6. Meguiars Rubber and Vynil Restoration (interior)
7. Meguiars Scratch X
8. Meguiars Krystal Car Wash
9. Jugs of store bought water (to avoid 'hard' water)
10. Meguiars Foam Applicator Pads

Most are pretty self explanitory, I just have a few questions on some of the items listed.

First, the Zymol, its the $12.50 baby blue bottle I got from Walmart, is this the real deal Zymol? If so, do you think its better than Meguiars Gold Class (which I also have), or should I do like a few coats of Zymol then a top coat of Meguiars?

How many coats of the Krystal Polish and Zymol should I do? Over what period of time? All this is being done by hand, cause the only other misc equipment I have is a 3000rpm random orbital buffer.

Ideas?

No. This is a one-step product (combining the steps of using a polish/glaze and a wax) and is designed primarily for time-saving. It is made by Turtle Wax in Chicago. The "real deal Zymol" products are made in Connecticut. You can read more about Zymol products in this topic.

I would suggest that you detail your car using five steps:

1. Wash the car, such as with your Meguiars Krystal Car Wash.

2. Clay the car using your Clay Magic claybar.

3. If you have any isolated scratches that are more than just the usual light swirl marks, use the Meguairs Scratch X on those spots only.

4. Go over the entire car with a non-abrasive polish or glaze. I have not used the Meguiars Deep Krystal Polish and cannot figure out from the Meguiars website whether this product is suitable for this step, but I will guess that it is.

5. Wax the entire car using the Meguiars Gold Class Wax which you say you have.

You can do the entire car at one time without any need to wait in between steps. Expect to spend 4-6 hours all told.

It is my belief that you will get better results by using separate products designed for the individual steps this way, and that the process is more important than the brand or specific product that you use for each step.

I think Ken is giving you the proper process. Most agree if your washing the car to strip all prior wax and polish from the surface, Dawn dishwashing liquid works great. Also I wash mine again after the clay process and dry well.

I thought you were only using what you already had...

You will need a non-abrasive glaze to remove oxidation, and a wax to protect the finish.

Why not try the "real deal Zymol" products? Remember, the majority of the first, second, and third place finishers at Pebble Beach, the top concours event in the country, use Zymol products on their cars. You could use their Zymol HD-Cleanse glaze, followed by the Zymol Japon wax, for example.

The store locator on the Zymol website shows four dealers in Georgia who sell the "real deal Zymol" products:

Harrison Motorsports
Roswell
678-879-1200

AutoDetail
Cumming
678-516-6836

Troncalli Jaguar
ROSWELL
(770) 475-0030

Hennessy Jaguar
ATLANTA
(404) 261-5700

If you're going to try either of the latter two dealers, you may want to call them first. Sometimes when the products are sold by a dealer of European cars, they don't carry waxes (like Japon) that are designed for Asian cars.

I just bought the Zymol before I made the original post, so I can still take it back for something else. I figure Im going to try the Meguiars tan bottle line ("profesional line") and see how it comes out.

When I have more time and money I plan on getting a full line of Zaino :)
