GT 3 for PS2

Why cant i get it to play in 16:9 aspect. I go to options and click it but nothing happens. PS 2 IS set for 16:9. Noraml mode looks bad and gives me the bars on the sides.

I have a hitachi ultravision tv if that is important.

I'm not sure what the situation is, but could it have to do with what input the PS2 is coming through on? For example, if you're using the normal RCA jack for video, would that not support 16:9 resolutions?

I know the game also has a setting for 16:9, but changing it here did nothing that I noticed to the game (I'm still using a 4:3 tv, though).

Perhaps another video input?
