Scarry Apache helicopter shooting video

Go out to Twenty-Nine Palms Marine Corps base and see what they do to the used-up tanks and trucks out there with anti-tank weapons like Tow, Hellfire, bomb and 30mm A10's cannon.

Wounded

Am I the only one who noticed that the last guy was wounded!!!
I did not know that our forces were into killing of wounded soldiers. This is something Nazis would do. Shame shame shame!!! This is highly illegal under international law!!!!!!!!!!

I thought of that as well.

But if it was a terrorist who might have otherwise gotten away because they were still in terrorist territory, then it might justified. Who knows? It's hard to judge this without context.

Please find that law for me. If you are going to make accusations of war crimes, at least quote the law being broken.

Is it just me or does it seem that the gunner vacillates after he gets the order to finish the guy off. Although it sounds like he is ordered to finish the guy off it seems as if he shoots the truck and not the guy on the ground.
This video really seems more like a video game than real life. Hard to imagine the men blown to bits have mothers, fathers, wives and children.

Ditto.

Context, we don't know either. Hey, maybe they just finished launching motors from the back of that truck killing our soldiers. If so, sorry - they die.

I dindt notice any weapons on them! How do you know if they're hostile?

errr..Of course you don't...you just wish and shoot them anyways!

This is sad....That's why war is ugly! Truly disturbing! I wish they have a good reason to kill those unarmed individuals...unless they have pocket knifes with them....

According to this article, the three were handling an RPG or shoulder-launched missile in the full length version of the video, prior to the Apache rolling in hot.

Agreed. Regardless of the justification, this kind of footage is just bad press for our armed forces, particularly in the eyes of our critics.

Actually, from what I read online (and was told by someone that follows these things much more than I), the helicopter pilot had previous intel about an arms deal going down, I didn't watch the video, but I assume this was the same one.

The trucks on the right of the screen were the arms dealers, the tractor that pulled up on the left (like a farm tractor) was the guy buying the weapons. You'll notice that the third person rolls around a bit, then lies still. They didn't shoot him again, when the chopper fires the gun afterwards, it's directed at the third truck, first he takes out all the live targets and then finishes vehicles.

From talking with Jeff, some of the sources he discussed this with (he's an ex airforce guy) told him that this was well off the beaten path, and American ground troops wouldn't be coming in to clean up, hence the helicopter being thorough.

I would think this video would raise folk's opinions of our military - the precision strike launched on a moment's notice to prevent a sale of arms within Iraq (iirc mortar shells and light weapons), arms that would have been used against the Americans and our allies attempting to provide security.

I am with you. I have no problem with it either. My brother-in-law is in the airforce. He was working in the Pentagon the day it was hit. 20 min. before he was in the exact part of the building that was hit and destroyed. Our soilders are the best trained out there and they know what they are doing and I stand behind them 100%....

My cousin is a Staff Sargeant in the Marines. He has told me a couple of things and shown me some pretty gruesome pics of terrorists. He has said on more than one occasion that the general public has no idea of what is really going on. They don't want to really know either. Would rather turn their back and think everything is all fine and dandy when it isn't.

It's interesting how even the word terrorist doesn't have any bite anymore; it's almost become passe. People hear about suicide bombings in Jerusalem and say that's "just what it's like over there, how those people live".

And then my office mate comes out and defends the Palestinian bombings against the Israelis, and the "resistance" against the security forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, and laments the amount of American casualties. I'll admit I'm young and inexperienced, but didn't we lose a few more folks in Vietnam than Iraq? Like 10's of thousands vs. hundreds?

Maybe, but it's not exactly like the military is rushing to deliver this footage into our living rooms either, if ya know what I mean ;). Not that I'm complaining, but in due time everything will come out and be judged by future generations (any History Channel WWII film buffs here?).

No problem watso ever with the video. I too stand 100% behind our armed forces and am proud of them. My friend is also in the marines and came back sometime last year thanksgivin(?) after serving in Iraq. I think he's to go back sometime in april I think?
