Short Gear-JDM R&P-6 Speed Comparison

So I am sitting here bored and decided to put in Gran Turismo and drive my 93 NSX around as it is raining down here in the Tampa Bay area and I can't drive my real one:( . I got the idea to try some acceleration runs using just a full race transmission as my only modification so that I could test the affects of the different gearing options available to 91-94 owners. The fully customizeable transmission is a six speed but you don't use that gear for these tests so it is irrelevant.

All runs were done on the 0-1000M test track. Car is the Acura model 91-94 NSX (black roof) with full racing transmission and everything else stock. Traction control was set at 1 to control wheel spin on the launch and ASM was set to 0. I set the transmission to automatic so the shifts would be at the same point every time. I wanted to take myself out of the equation as much as possible. Basically all I had to do was keep the accelerator button pressed. Launches were done at redline.

After setting the transmission to OEM USDM specs, the acceleration numbers seemed to be on par with what people are seeing in the real world. The 1-2 upshift even feels painfully long in the game as it does in real life.

Anyway, you can see the results HERE

First let me say that I know it's just a game. However, the results are very repeatable. Some analysis: It appears that the JDM final drive has no affect on acceleration and in fact may even hurt it due to having to shift sooner. I didn't do the Comptech R&P but I may later on just for arguement's sake. I would suspect that acceleration would be hurt even further though. Anyway, take it for what it's worth. Flame if you like but it was fun and gave me something to do involving an NSX for a couple hours this afternoon!

Interesting test.

I have always wanted to put the short gears in, but it seems like a lot of money for .2 of a second in a 1/4 mile.

Better to save up for that SC!

automatic shifts slow you down .3 sec or so i have found.

That is true. I was able to get faster times shifting manually but my times were not as consistant as they were letting the computer shift. I was more interested in consistancy and seeing what the difference in time was rather than going for the fastest possible time for comparison sake.
