sticky clutch pedal

I have an aftermarket clutch that was in my car when I bought it. The pedal is "sticky" when let it out...(It does not come out smoothly.) Does anyone know how common this is and how to fix it?

Also, I can smell the clutch when I do a hard acceleration start from standing. Does this mean the clutch is slipping?

Will the drivetrain in a '94 take a hard burn-out, or will the CV joints or other components be overstressed?

Thanks in advance for any imput.

Any time you can smell the clutch, it is slipping.

A hard burnout will always stress the drive train in general. That being said, it is probably ok on an occasional basis, i.e., you don't make a habit of going to the drag strip. After all, the X wasn’t designed for that.

Sounds like it might be the slave cylinder, I've got a smilar problem where the pedal feels sticky when released, but when the car is driven hard for a few mins, the pedal feels softer and smoother. The dealer took a quick look and they though it was the slave cylinder starting to fail.
