Ferrari F40 rebuild

I wonder how long it took to do the rebuild and how much $$ it cost? Hard to believe an insurance company would pay for that. Then again, maybe one didn't and the owner just liked the car so much he wanted it rebuilt??

THAT is amazing! How great would it be to own that car and say you rebuilt it from the hulk it came to you as... what ability!

is that the oil filter ?

Looking at the pictures, I stumbled on this one:

Is that really how the oil filrter mounts on this engine ?!?!?

if yes, I'm just flabergasted (sp?)...

Thanks, really shows the detail. That guys ability is incredible. The assembly and reassembly would drive me crazy, great job.

Geez

That looks like a blatant case of needing an oil filter relocation kit.

You just have to wait until the oil drains out of it. The procedure is that you just slightly loosen the filter to break the seal and then wait until oil drains out of it.

It's not that messy but it is a bit time consuming.

I tried this on my RX-7 and still had oil drip on to the engine. Poor design IMO.

Wow this guy is freaking amazing!!! If i wrecked my NSX i would like him to rebuild it...just amazing!!!!

Thanks Lud, this is simply AWESOME! WOW! I'd love to be able to restore a car like that!

Is there a way to save all this document as it is?

Thanks,

Effer

P.S. Would like to see this guy with a wrecked Mc Laren F1!

I get a kick out of the Christmas tree on the roof.
It's a (itsa) old Italian good luck thing to put a tree on a roof of a house when you are building.

How about this guy with a widebody NSX...?

The new 6.0L diesel engine from Ford also has the oil filter on the top of the engine. Although, it is a drop in design rather than a screw on design. It cost about $30 each. The fuel filters, which there are two of cost $98 for the pair!!

Here is a shot of a F-40 that was wrecked and burned and look how it turned out. The F-40 is owned by the owner of Motion Products a Ferrari restoration shop near my house. I guess he bought it wrecked from a elderly man that crashed it in a HPDS this shop does unreal work but at a huge price. The time I got a tour Thee Tommy Hilfiger had his vintage Ferrari in getting restored someone there said it was near a cool million.

What do you think this cost to do?
I'd say $300K at least.

Don't know about the total cost but the guy does say that he was suprised how cheap some parts were and that there were so many used parts available from owners who had customized their cars for racing. This was not an insurance paid restoration by the way. From what I can make out this was a guy who owns a Ferrari repair shop in Germany happening to witness the accident (someone changed lanes in front of the F40) and being the one to call for help. I'm not sure how he came to be the one repairing the car but it appears that he bought the wreck - not sure about that part.

Proud to see a german free garage (not a Ferrari dealer) doing such work. As the text stated it took over a year and the damage was claimed to be 850,000 DM which is over 400,000 Euro (you do the $ math please). No wonder if you have to pay 70 Euro for one original Ferrari bolt!
