South Florida karting, any takers?

well Kevin (BladesNSX) and I have been talking and decided that it would be cool to do a meet that involves an activity.. So I found out that there is a karting place down in North Miami called Mega Racing. http://www.mega-racing.com/ . I called today and spoke to them.. Told them the story that we are a car club looking to get together soon, etc. etc..

The deal is like this.. If we have 14 people, we have the track to ourselves.. A single race takes 15-20 min so we can do 3 races in an hour and it will cost us $50 per person..

They can also isolate a portion of the parking lot for our cars.. Apparently, it has been done before because he didn't flinch at that request.

The only down side to this is the days.. They are only available to do this on Mon-Tue-Thurs-Fri from 6-11pm.

odd hours but whatever.. We can do it on a Friday night I guess..

So far I have about 6 people down.

I am thinking of doing this in the next couple of weeks.. Maybe dinner after???

suggestions and comments welcome!

anyways, i think this is pretty fun...also a good chance for all of to compete against each other and (did I mention?) fun.

Oh yeah, the minimum age (just in case someone is bringing little brothers, cousins, sons, etc) is 15 because these karts are pretty fast..

The guy at the track told me they top out at 40 MPH which is pretty quick for a go-kart..

Oh yeah, the engines on the karts are HONDA!!!!

Hey Julian!! you were right......Armando's in. Damn he's a cool guy.

Armando.....It was really cool of you to meet up with my friend James. He has a beautiful white comptech NSX sitting in his driveway now.

BTW, James (the new NSX owner said he would be down as well). So, um....I guess that makes `7` people. Is there no one else interested?

No problem, he seemed like a real nice guy, Im glad he found the right NSX, good choice on color too. Count me in for anything you guys come up with. Any of you guys going to central Florida for the supermeet April 2-4?

Yeah, he and I have been friends since my very first NSX g2g with some other NSX owners who have all since sold their cars. James sold his but is back in the saddle in a beautiful Grand Prix white '93. He wasn't too sure about the color but after seeing your car Armando he was very impressed. He loves the SoS car but of course thats an unrealistic goal. Your car was the nip in the bud for him.

What is this April meet? Is it an NSX event? Tell me more. I will be interested as well.

Karters, just my FYI:

18 months back, I took 3 kids there, all under 15. I rented the track for 20-30 minutes, with cars, suits, helmets, etc. The entire track without anyone else but us 4. I paid $110 for it all. YMMV.

Its a joint meet with NSXs and S2000, I ve been to a couple and its always a great time, take your better half as some of the fun is after hours. Let me know if you are going and we can have a mini Gumball from here to there, (for pink slips of course

Maybe you can use your past contact at the track to secure a better deal... It didn't seem that he would go below the price that I posted but maybe you can do better...

We should start thinking dates..

Friday March 26 or Friday April 2?

I think we can get there around 8pm or so and mess around for like an hour.. Then maybe we can do a group drive out to a restaurant maybe off I-75 (since Mega Racing is around OpaLocka we have a straight shot to the Gratigny Parkway and then right on 75) and get some dinner... I am not familiar with the area restaurants off of 75 so I need you (954) guys to give us some direction.

I know from Pines Blvd and north pretty well. On Pines, there's a Chili's and a few miles down is Bahama Breeze, on Sheridan there is the Atlanta Bread Company (pretty good food) a few miles down, on Griffin there is going to be an Outback soon, but nothing really now. Arvida is a good one with Flannagans. If you continue north to Sunrise Blvd (now, the Sawgrass Expwy but no toll at Sunrise), there is a Quarterdeck (my fav

), a Fridays, AppleBee's, Steak N Shake, and a few other places (sawgrass mills mall).

Well, Quarterdeck or Flannagans would be nice. Both are pretty popular places and the one in Weston has plenty of parking, as does the Quarterdeck. Oh and the women ain't so bad either! hehe

April 2nd is the meet? Hmm thats on a Fri. I will try and get that day off. But since I am injured, all my vacation/sick time are being used. Hopefully I can make it. Its strange though. Usually these meets are on a weekend day.

It looks like the hotel registration deadline has already passed. Not good. I am going to register anyways just to be sure.
