Road Atlanta is audible from here...
This past weekend at Road Atlanta, 2 lady NSXCA members were very successful in SCCA competition. Denise Morrison (wife of Rob Morrison) and Maria Herrera-Hicks (wife of Mark Hicks) were entered in a 90 minute enduro, featuring a pit stop and driver change, and including 7 different classes. They were driving a spec-Neon ACR owned by Rob Morrison in the SSC class (the slowest class out there!). Maria qualified the car 1st in class, and started 68th in a field of 76. They finished 52nd, 2nd in class, and Maria set fastest lap time for the class in the race (1.56.5).

Later the same day, Denise drove the Neon in a 15 lap SARRC event. She qualified 3rd in class, starting 25th in a field of 36, and finished FIRST in class, 23rd overall, and also set the fastest lap in the class for the race (1.57.4).

These excellent results are even more impressive considering that this was the first ever SCCA competition outing for both ladies. Maria and Denise both were introduced to the sport at Chin Motorsports and NSXCA events, and have received substantial instruction from CMS staff (not to mention their husbands :D )

my buddy Don, there is not a big enough grin in the smilies to express the laugh I got from your post...! Remember, behind every great woman NSX driver, there is a great man...

seriously, I am fortunate to have a wife so skilled/commited, and I will do all I can to support her. Afer all, she got about 100 laps at Road Atlanta last weekend, and I got ZERO as crew chief. She has also gotten more track days overall than me... because I keep sending her to schools!

When we are together at our next track outing, I'll make sure Maria is available to give YOU instruction...

She beats everybody in Karting as a result of tips she gets from me... granted, she does implement the tips more effectively than I can!

Congrats,Maria has the skill and apptitude,as well as desire,I would think that could take her a long way if she decides to pursue this competitive passion further.Sorry Mark you'll have to run the restaurants!:D

Maria Hicks = fast as snot, married to an NSXCA board member, and finalist in the NSXPO2002 track event competition

Denise Morrison = fast as snot and married to a DAL Motorsports owner/driver (and also a former champion personal watercraft racer)

Hmm.......... Anyone else think a pink race NSX will be in their future? :)

Thank you guys for the compliments!

Denise and I came in 1st in the ECR SSC class two weeks ago at the SCCA VIR event and improved 13 spots overall. Our pit stop was only 6 seconds over the minimum! And, Denise also finished 1st in class in her SARRC race :)

Sponsors anyone? :D

I would race any color NSX anytime!

Wei-Shen / Eric / Rob / Denise / Vaughn / Mark / Maria - we live vicariously through your souls. Great job!!

In the mean time, I am working on convincing my Pit Lizard that if I beat the crap out of my transmission and I let hot shoes spin my car into the swamp, that there is nothing she can do to hurt Saint. Alternatively, we are looking at other cars for her. As with Maria, I think PL will start out slow in her car, but afterwards if I can get her in my car, you boys (but not the girls) look out. :)

Doc John - belated, but congrats to you and Trish.

Thanks again. I love going to the track :)

Andy, I hope you are able to convince PL to get on the track. I would not mind having a ladies get together during NSXPO and sharing my track experiences from a woman's point of view. Good luck finding the right car for her!

Doc John - same here, congratulations to you and Trish! Maybe we can get her out there too (driving)...
