emission test

my 91 nsx failed its emission test. it has 46000 miles and the cats appear ok. any thoughts?

HC ppm 69 218 fail
CO% 0.38 0.70 fail
NO ppm 777 1078 fail


curb idle test-pass

How long did you drive prior to the test?
Did you idle for a long time in line or was the car cold when tested?
Did they give you a printout from the test so we know what parts failed.


These are just a few of the things that may help someone help you.

Provided your car is stock and the emissions equipment has never been altered, you should be so below the allowable limits for hydrocarbon count and monoxide levels it shouldn't be funny.

yeah, that sounds funny. My '91 with 130K passed with flying colors...only thing modded was intake and exhaust...and this is CA too...

is it better to have your car driven before the emission test? Or idle?

Drive hard. The hotter the Cat, the better it works.
